??Henoch-Sch?nlein Purpura (HSP): HSP is a vasculitis disorder that affects multiple systems, including the skin, gastrointestinal tract, and kidneys. Although it does not affect platelets or coagulation factors, it leads to purpura and prolonged bleeding time. How does this happen? To understand, we need to recall the mechanism of primary hemostasis, which relies on platelets and—often forgotten—vascular vasoconstriction, which is the crux of the matter. HSP impacts the other, typically overlooked, component of primary hemostasis: vascular vasoconstriction.
