Setting Out with ESRI Field Maps & Trimble Catalyst Another side of my work is using GIS. Whilst GIS is a key part of my drone operations (into my 9th year) I have been using GIS for over twenty years. Today I was asked to help set out about 200 trees on a large residential project. In this case I didn’t have access to CAD data just large pdf’s. First job scan and save as jpegs. Next open these up in ArcPro and georeference there jpegs. I then add a new point feature layer and capture all tree locations. Then created packaged la yer files of the jpegs and import these and the point data into ArcGIS. Next stage is too create a web map. Now we can go into the field. Open Trimble Manager and start a Catalyst session. Open Arcmaps and load the webmap. Soon working to 2/3 cm accuracy. From my experience processing spatial datasets, projections and coordinate reference systems are essential to ensuring the validity of all geometries. Most GIS projects' output results are impacted by inaccurate and invalid geometry. Specialists in GIS, remote sensing, and surveying should exercise caution; this reference book will advise you accordingly. Finally, confirm that every dataset you have is in a consistent format and geometries (e.g., CRS).

Understanding the fundamentals of projection and transformations in spatial dataset processing is very crucial. In most scenarios, working with the wrong coordinate systems can lead to inaccurate data output results. Automatic georeferencing (AGR) is the process of automatically determining the spatial coordinates of a digital image and placing it at a specific geographic location on a map.
