1st Anniversary of Winning Two Awards! Kit And Arlo Find A Way: Teaching Consent to 8- 12-year-olds SATURDAY 7th September 2024 Winner of two awards a year ago today... Outstanding Winner for overall Primary School resource and Winner of Primary Educational Chapter Book at the Educational Publishing Awards Australia, you can read the judge's comments here:https://lnkd.in/gzwtG3rJ This is the video of @ingridlaguna and @ACER winning - we were very excited!!! https://lnkd.in/gVgmNezt Why teach consent? It is essential to everyday life and relationships. Teaching consent to young children instils decision-making skills they will carry with them into their sexual encounters later on. To highlight the pleasure, joy and fun that consent provides in friendships/relationships and shared activities. Consent education covers topics like respect and empathy, both of which are essential to ensuring we don’t disrespect or harm others in our relationships. Teens typically become sexually active at around 16 &17 (that is typical human sexual development), they need a positive understanding of consent before they embark on intimate encounters. Consent is delivered with an engaging, eroticised and pleasurable focus - not fear and danger approach. Consent needs to be taught early, consistently and in plain language with a focus on breaking down rigid gender stereotypes and disrespect, but perhaps most importantly with a focus on pleasure and shared enjoyment. It can be as simple as ‘why would you want to force someone to do something that is not pleasurable and enjoyable for all involved?’ What are the benefits of teaching consent? Prevents disrespect, violence and abuse. It’s empowering and provides a foundation of sexuality positivity. Teaches bodily autonomy. Can reshape the current culture in society of inequity and power in relationships. It demonstrates that the responsibility of ‘yes’ should be shared. The ‘no means no’ message is unhelpful. It puts responsibility and onus for consent onto one person. Mutual negotiation and responsibility for consent is needed. Ask for something that is likely to not need a ‘no’. #talkingsexparentconversationguide #sexeducation #sexualityeducation #talkingthetalkhealthysexualityeducation #parenting #bodysafety #consent #respectfulrelationships

#career #whoamI I am privileged to co-lead an NUS Cities studio with Mr Lee Kwang Weng, former Executive Director, Council For Estate Agencies. I decided recently that my LinkedIn profile shall not be based on my job title. Am I an employee or a 'position' within an organization and I must be associated with the imagery or perceived authority (and hence my worth) attached? I am who I am as a person, a father who advocates how to live with autism, a teacher who loves to see students learn, and a built environment expert who advises on pertinent issues. You are more valuable than a title. Because what if that title is no longer valid?

This is a bare tale of life on campus where many students finally get the chance to swim in freedom as adults. This book explores sexual relationships amongst students and between students and workers within or around the institutions. For instance, Richi suddenly becomes a fearless philanderer after joining campus. He enters into many short relationships with the sole purpose of exploring girls sexually. He ends up marrying Kajuju, a woman who was just preying on him unaware that he was the real predator. However, he doesn't stop being a philanderer; he impregnates a first-year student at KIMC and vanishes. He also rekindles his illicit relationship with NyarSiaya, a married woman who was once his girlfriend on campus. Some, like Bobo, are saved but also want to enjoy being laid regularly. Since serving two masters is difficult, they choose what is easier, exciting and enjoyable, thus leaving the altar for clubs and dingy rooms. This doesn’t have a happy ending as some of them end up pregnant, addicted to drugs or seriously heartbroken for having high expectations and being too ambitious. The dating scene at campus is dominated by emotions, temporary excitements and curiosity to try new things. Therefore, peer pressure, material possessions and power play a significant role in deciding who dates who and for how long. In this case, one’s character is disregarded or overshadowed by power and material possessions. Nonetheless, we have students who date with purpose and decorum and end up building families. Others, like Sammy wa Jesus, abstain from sexual relationships and focus on their studies and serving in church. This also pays off for those who genuinely choose to walk the path. Campus Diaries is a mesmeric novel that will not only make you smile as you watch the characters in action, but will also get you onto several cliffs of pleasure and desires. This will be a combination of Campus Diaries I and II and will be in hard copy only starting next week. This therefore means both I and two will not be available in hard/print form. It will cost 1000/- instead of 1400/- that the two would have cost. It's also available online Thanks.

Hiya! Recently I wrote a guest commentary for IC's esteemed newspaper 'The Ithacan'. The article, which I titled "A new mascot is essential to promoting unity across campus" outlines my personal beliefs toward the college's nickname, mascot, and icon - 'The Bomber'. Being published on their website is something I am particularly happy to share, and the responses I have gotten from the community have been quite interesting. The link to the story is attached below, feel free to let me know what you think! https://lnkd.in/eM_G-cQf

The article provides a positive message about the importance of prioritising personal life rather than spending every waking hour working. ?? The headline is correct in specifying success as a "male academic" rather than as an "academic". One finding by Campbell Galman and Moreau (2021) in their research funded by Advance HE is that "Caring is a virtue signal for men, but a professional impediment for women." https://lnkd.in/g6D9Vj_U Maybe if/when more academics do prioritise family life, it will shift the expectations for all academics. Dritijon Gurta notes that "Some [female colleagues] expressed a degree of disappointment that their partners did not make similar changes when they first became parents." How can we help our university colleagues value their own time better, and realise that having a life outside work won't be detrimental to success in a career? As a starting point, it's useful to have examples like this. And to look at ourselves and try and get better with sharing caring responsibilities. ?? #researchculture #edi #WorkLifeBalance

“At a session about building successful careers, someone advocated for meticulously scheduling personal life, including sex with romantic partners, to boost work productivity. “Other advice included minimizing time with your children to allow you to revise and resubmit manuscripts.” Prioritizing his family life has earned Dritjon Gruda respect in his field — and his research has improved, too, he writes in Nature. I had an amazing time last Friday, and I’ve brought you the tea! ?? Last Friday, I had the honor of speaking with female secondary school students from ACME Private School, Lagos State, in celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child. I spoke on the topic: Breaking Stereotypes Regarding Career Choices. We started the conversation by asking the girls to list career paths they thought were appropriate for women and those that seemed ‘out of place’ for women. Their answers made addressing career stereotypes much easier. They mentioned careers like baking and nursing as appropriate for women and careers like engineering and piloting as ‘out of place.’ Consciously or unconsciously, society has instilled limiting beliefs in these girls regarding career paths. Many of them have interests in these fields, but out of fear of seeming out of place, they are conditioned to choose the ‘suitable’ roles. During my session, I emphasized three key points: ?? Girls are allowed to dream big and wild, but they must be willing to put in the work. (??: We took the chant multiple times till it sank into their consciousness) ?? Nothing good and long-lasting comes easy. It won’t fall into your lap just because you are a lady. ?? Your role model is within reach. Fame is not a criterion for selecting a role model. I had such a great time speaking with these girls, sharing things I wish I had known at their age. We even had a choreography session! I couldn’t resist?? ?? Dear fellow young person, you’re the narrative—act like it. Did I get the message across?

This study found a negative association between screen time and measures of parent-child talk when children are 12 to 36 months of age. For every additional minute of screen time, children heard fewer adult words, spoke fewer vocalizations, and engaged in fewer back-and-forth interactions. This is Abhishek from MLB College, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh sharing his insights and learnings from the EVoGC course.?This is how engaging young boys and men into conversations about Gender equality and equity helps focus on understanding the inequalities that exist in society and on creating solutions to address them. It is also important to provide boys and men with the resources they need to develop the skills necessary to create a more equitable society. Finally, it is important to create a safe and supportive environment for men to have these conversations. USAID MOMENTUM, Jhpiego, Vihara Innovation Network
