We invited Matt Robinson of MATTS MEALS to our Party Under the Harvest Moon last month, and he's still talking about what he learned about the work we're doing to reduce food insecurity and food waste in our community. Check out a conversation he had last week with WBZ News Radio reporter, Jordan Rich, on Connoisseurs Corner with Jordan Rich - linked below! Thanks for continuing to help raise awareness for our work, Matt! https://lnkd.in/dss8Rh-m

A very interesting take on manufactured food deserts by Ron Finley, an issue that is not talked about as frequently as it should be. The whole world is suffering from the lack of access to sustainable and adequate food sources, whilst the alternative is becoming more and more attractive for lower income communities. Coupled with low percentages of financial literacy, it has never been easier to opt out of the healthy option. A cancerous cycle rampant among families living pay check to pay check. Resulting in increased mortality rates, increased medical bills and insurance quotas, and a lower quality of life. Raising awareness through Guerrila gardening will prove to have a lasting impact on future generations food choices!

Food deserts, in my opinion, are one of the most underrated topics of discussion when it comes to why people eat what they eat. The lack of knowledge on this topic simply comes from 2 different perspectives. 1) A person does NOT live in a food desert. 2) A person has grown up only knowing the landscape of a food desert and never leaves. (for whatever reason) I believe it is important to remember there are other lives happening outside of your own. Just because you are not facing a specific adversity does not mean the adversity doesn’t exist. Where ever you are, next time you drive through town I encourage you to pay attention to the demographics and business/companies that serve those demographics. You may not be able to physically or financially go and rid an area of a food desert, but you can find other solutions to help the problem. No matter how big or how small, solutions are solutions that DO make an impact.

IF YOU HAVE EVER WONDERED WHAT A VISIONARY COMMUNITY LEADER SOUNDS LIKE 'If kids grow kale, kids eat kale.' We can tell in a SINGLE sentence how experienced someone is at anything. A single sentence. That is life. No 'lie detector' or intelligence agency or facial-muscle scan necessary. More importantly. We can't FAKE INSPIRATION. Either we are inspiring, or we aren't we are knowledgeable, or we aren't we are capable, or we aren't we are dedicated, or we aren't we are internationally and historically powerful and commanding, or we aren't we are healing our communities, or we aren't we are healing the world, or we aren't we are helping the world, or we aren't we are the leading authority on what we speak about, or we aren't we care way more about looking polite or we care way more about actually helping people we care way more about being seen to say the VERY PRETTIEST WORDS AND ENFORCE OUR RULES ABOUT WHAT PRETTY LITTLE WORDS SHOULD BE SAID, or we care about getting things done As humans we have finite resources. Limited energy, days on this earth and limited things we can care about. What do we care about? What communities? What local problems do we see? What local solutions do we find? To stare at the news of FAR FLUNG GOSSIP and GOSSIP ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS IN FAR AWAY LANDS? You can criticise CLIMATE CHANGE DENIERS. But what about COMMUNITY DENIERS. Pop quiz: Which popular TV show features the catch phrase: 'We're living in a COMMUNITY!' Hint: It wasn't COMMUNITY. Hint: It was the biggest sitcom in human history. What is simply and definitely IS. What isn't simply and definitely ISN'T. As much as I care about the environment, the battles I pick daily are more important. The REALITY DENIERS. The COMMUNITY DENIERS. The INNOVATION DENIERS. Why? We need innovative communities to KNOW THE REALITIES OF THE PROBLEMS HUMANITY ACTUALLY FACES. In our homes, in our offices, in our schools, in our colleges, in our governments, in our trade talks - in our media and entertainment industries. But firstly. Within our own fine selves. We must sort ourselves out first. We must think clearly. Then we must speak clearly. Then we must collaborate clearly. And we must always focus on what our BEST INTENTIONS ARE. If ever you don't know, it's VERY LIKELY you forgot to SIMPLY ASK YOURSELF. Communication is like this. If you can't and don't and won't communicate smartly, clearly and honestly with yourself... How and why do you expect you will be able to communicate smartly, clearly and honestly with anyone else? Everything requires practice. So we must talk to ourselves inside our head. But we are coming from a time when we called THINKING 'crazy'. We literally did. 'Do you hear voices? Do you talk to yourself? Do you talk to yourself when you're alone? Do you talk too much? Do you say INNOVATIVE things that NON INNOVATIVE HITLERS LIKE ME WILL HATE?' So, human souls were banned. By cartels. Now we are free again. So, talk.

Every founder of a food and beverage plant based company should read this article. This what so many of the executives just don’t understand, who deeply animal based protein products are woven in to our culture. And yes until this is clearly understood these companies will not reach the broader and much larger part of the market in the next five to twenty years. Plant based protein products are not a regular part of our larger cultural history. Until it becomes part of the main stream this movement will never grow much beyond where it is today. These are the facts Jack and I eat less red meat today than I ever have and truly enjoy plant based products. But this years Super Bowl Party at our house will not anything close to a plant based celebration. Otherwise no one would show up. Nor is anyone attending requesting a plant based main courses.
