I had an incredible internship experience at Equity Residential! While interning at The Clarendon, and The Reserve at Clarendon Center, I gained invaluable knowledge and skills in property management, including using property management software, managing tenant relations, overseeing building maintenance, and gaining insights into budgeting and finances. I'm particularly proud of conducting a competitor analysis, which helped me develop strong research and analytical skills and provided valuable insights into market trends. I also enjoyed learning more about residential and retail properties. I'm looking forward to applying what I've learned in my future career! We sat down with our intern, Camila Cortés, to get her take on what she’s been up to during her internship with our Northstar team. Camila’s greatest lesson learned at Northstar:?“The importance of effective communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Three words come to mind every time I describe what Northstar does; those three words, I believe, consolidate what a true project manager is. It was the moment when I had to do a public speaking workshop with Commercial Real Estate Success Training (CREST) Internship, and this grabber we had to create came to me. It gave me the idea of seeing Northstar like master Lego builders, arranging together every block to create a masterpiece. Nothing is better than having a job where interacting with people in the right way is the key to the project’s success.” Regarding the skills she acquired, “I gained a deep understanding of the importance of the Owner’s Project Manager (OPM) role, which I was unfamiliar with in Colombia. The internship allowed me to truly appreciate the value of this role and be a part of it. I am excited that I have successfully completed deal sourcing externship through Extern in collaboration with Colton Alexander Over the course of this externship I had the opportunity to: - Reasearch and identify companies with missions aligned with reducing the effects of climate change, and evaluate their business models and marketing strategies for long term sustainability in order to reduce the impaces of clomate change in the future - Conduct due diligence of companies that would be the best option as an investment proposal for Colton Alexander - Develop predictions about their commercial viability and scalability - Presentation of the business investment proposal with the research gained on the company From this experience, I learned the importance of companies whose mission it’s to take climate change, the most challenging part was accessing scalability of the companies in the industry through changing market conditions. ?? Intern Spotlight: Meet Phoebe Ellis! ?? We just caught up with Phoebe, one of our talented summer interns working out of our corporate office. Here’s what she shared: ?? About Phoebe: "I'm interning with the R&D department at the corporate office. I recently completed my second year at Georgia Tech, majoring in Civil Engineering. I’m also from Atlanta, Georgia." ?? Internship Experience at Schnabel: "My internship at Schnabel has been great! Everyone is kind and willing to share their knowledge. I’ve enjoyed visiting job sites, applying classroom knowledge, and working with fellow interns. I’ve been involved in micropile load tests at M&T Bank Stadium, job support for SOMOS and Eccles, and R&D projects like analyzing waterfront tiebacks, concrete maturity, and deflection of a hanging mast. This experience has been eye-opening and shaped my future career goals." ?? Most Important Lesson Learned: "The most important lesson I’ve learned so far is that it’s okay to ask questions or ask for help. I’m halfway through college, so I still have a lot to learn. Everyone at Schnabel is a great resource, and I need to take advantage of all the knowledge they have." ?? Free Time Fun: "I really enjoy being outside in the sun, whether hiking, running, or sitting in a park reading a book. On 11th September 2024, I successfully completed my summer internship with #BrittainHadley. I would like to extend a special thanks to the incredible team at #BrittainHadley for their continuous support and guidance throughout the internship. During this time, I had the privilege of working on a variety of projects that allowed me to develop invaluable skills such as #problemsolving, #criticalthinking, #attentiontodetail, and #communicationskills. One of the most notable projects I contributed to involved replacing combustible cladding with non-combustible cladding on a seven-story building, and another project was carrying out repairs to a listed building, which I worked on from start to finish. I also carried out multiple site inspections across different locations to ensure that each project was progressing smoothly and met high standards. Writing detailed site reports was a key part of my role, allowing me to further develop strong communication and technical writing skills. Throughout my time at #BrittainHadley, I gained #projectmanagement, #teamwork, #communication and #siteinspection experience, enhancing my understanding of the construction process from inception to completion.
