Franchise Hack #1: Remember you are the local face of your brand. Get involved in the community. Attend local events, support causes, and be a visible part of what makes your community special. Make sure consumers around you know you’re there to serve them. What are some ways your locations interact with their local community?

We're all talking about government today, but I'm sad to say this week that I saw nearly ￡2,500 of taxpayer's money wasted at one of my workshops. I had 25 people signed up for this week's Product Market Hit workshop. But only 5 of those people turned up. When you add up the advertising costs, the overheads, the admin, refreshments, my time etc etc, that's over ￡100 per person who attends. Given the incredible feedback (average 9.02 out of 10), and the knowledge the attendees gain ("I wish I'd been taught this stuff 10 years ago!"), the cost per person is great value. But when 80% of people don't turn up, it's a huge waste to the taxpayer. Especially when there are people on the waiting list who could have taken their place if the tickets had been cancelled in advance. We've all done it - signed up to a free workshop, networking event, or talk, and then not turned up for whatever reason. Most free event organisers understand that a 50% dropout is very common. But this is my public plea - regardless of whether it is a privately sponsored networking event, or a publicly funded workshop, unless you fully intend to attend, please respect your organiser by cancelling in advance. You will help them plan for the event, maybe cancel some expensive catering, or even release tickets to the waiting list. And, in the case of the Product Market Hit workshops, you could save the taxpayer (i.e. you!) lots of money.
