Food no one needs but everyone craves for - It is sugar. According to the latest data, sugarcane is the world’s third most valuable crop after cereals and rice. However, its main output - White sugar is a global public health crisis. The obesity epidemic – along with related diseases including cancer, dementia, heart disease and diabetes – has spread across every nation where sugar-based carbohydrates have come to dominate the food economy. It's time to step back and think about our sugar consumption. Human physiology evolved on a diet containing very little sugar and virtually no refined carbohydrate. Instead of consuming highly processed white sugar, it's better to opt for minimally processed options like fresh sugarcane juice or jaggery. Jaggery is concentrated cane juice with molasses intact and is a better sweetener option. However, it is important to consume jaggery moderately and maintain an active lifestyle. Let's make a conscious effort to reduce our sugar intake and choose healthier alternatives for a better future.

Here's why breaking the cycle of hunger and malnutrition is crucial. Adequate nutrition is crucial for the optimal development of a child's brain, especially during the early years of life when the brain undergoes rapid growth and formation of neural connections. Malnutrition, particularly deficiencies in essential nutrients like protein, iron, iodine, zinc and certain vitamins, often leads to cognitive impairments and developmental delays. ? It hinders the development of cognitive abilities, such as memory, attention and problem-solving skills. ? Malnourished children have difficulty concentrating, processing information, and retaining knowledge. ? It leads to delays in language acquisition and communication skills, affecting a child's ability to express themselves and comprehend information. In some cases, it is possible to reverse the impact of malnutrition through proper nutritional interventions. Early detection and appropriate dietary support can help mitigate the cognitive effects of malnutrition. However, prolonged periods of malnutrition, especially during critical developmental stages, may result in long-term consequences for cognitive function. This informative illustration from @WorldVisionLesotho emphasises the need to disrupt the destructive cyclic pattern of hunger, which is possible through enhanced nutrition. #SDG1NoPoverty #SDG2ZeroHunger #SDG3GoodHealthandWellbeing #B2BPublishers #SDGPublishersCompact

The whiter the bread, the quicker you are dead. ?? The Hunza people's longevity, living over 100 has been the subject of much research. "The environment in which the Hunza live is mountainous and has extremely rough terrain. The villages are incredibly isolated and built into the cliffside; some villages are more than 1,000 years old, with rough passages, steep ridges, and long walking journeys to their agricultural fields. Hunza people consume a mostly plant-based diet, eaten raw. Apricots, cherries, grapes, and peaches are all cultivated by the Hunza. They also eat a lot of grains — wheat,?barley, and millet — and?chapati,?their daily bread. What they don't eat are processed foods, which may help to explain their low levels of oxidative stress and oxidative-related health disorders like diabetes and high cholesterol." The #first1000days of a child’s life, from conception until they reach 2 years of age, is paramount for setting off on pathways to a good life. Well-nourished children at age 2 do better in school, are more likely to thrive mentally and physically, develop stronger livelihoods, and age healthily — avoiding diseases such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure. “Nutrition is the ‘super-investment’ that keeps on giving for people, society, and the planet," state Lawrence Haddad CMG and Brieuc PONT. Here's more on why nutrition is an unstoppable investment and should be top of mind for the Nutrition For Growth Summit: https://lnkd.in/dPqYGrci #N4G2025 #N4GParis
