Groundbreaking Milestone at the Daniel J. Leeman MD & Elite Surgical Center of Georgetown! We’re excited to announce a major step forward as we break ground on this state-of-the-art medical facility, designed to provide world-class care and innovative surgical services to the Georgetown community. Flynn Construction is proud to continue our partnership with Dr. Daniel J. Leeman and the Elite Surgical team on this exciting project, as well as our continued collaboration with Dunn & Drinkard Development Company. Just behind the job site is the Medical Towers at Georgetown, a 3-story building that we also had the privilege of constructing. This new surgery center is being designed as a standalone, one-story building — a custom, build-to-suit solution that perfectly supports the surgical services it will house. And there’s more to come! We’re also preparing for the next phase of development in the area, with plans to break ground on additional medical space adjacent to the Medical Towers in the coming year. Stay tuned for updates as we continue to bring this transformative healthcare facility — and future expansions — to life! studio ELES Goode Faith Engineering, LLC #FlynnConstruction #HealthcareConstruction #MedicalBuilding #GeorgetownTexas #Groundbreaking #SurgicalExcellence #BuildingTheFuture #CommunityCare #MedicalGrowth #DunnAndDrinkardDevelopment

When designing healthcare facilities, it's crucial to consider the unique needs of different medical procedures. Three key spaces come to mind: Invasive Rooms, Procedure Rooms, and Non-Invasive Rooms. Non-Invasive Rooms are designed for diagnostic procedures that don't penetrate tissues, such as MRI and CT scans. These spaces prioritize patient comfort and accessibility while ensuring the accuracy of imaging studies. Procedure Rooms offer versatility, accommodating a range of medical procedures like minor surgeries and examinations. They provide dedicated space and necessary equipment without the sterility requirements of an operating theatre. Invasive Rooms, also known as Interventional Rooms, are tailored for procedures involving the penetration of body tissues. Equipped with advanced imaging technology, they support interventions such as angiography and cardiac catheterization. Each room type serves distinct purposes, ensuring that healthcare facilities meet the specific requirements of diverse medical procedures. By understanding their roles and design considerations, architects and healthcare planners can create environments conducive to efficient, safe, and patient-centered care. #HealthcareDesign #MedicalFacilities #Architecture

Patient Safety Day | Research Spotlight At CannonDesign India, we’re adopting a research-based and hypothesis-driven approach to craft design solutions that enhance patient safety by creating more effective work environments for clinicians. On World Patient Safety Day, we would like to shine a spotlight on ongoing research by the CannonDesign Director of Research, Dr. Felix Kabo, on the complex associations between surgical team communication and patient safety. Dr. Kabo is the lead author for a research paper titled “Associations of Surgical Team Communication With the Layout of Physical Space: A Network Analysis of the Operating Room in a Military Medical Center” that examines how the operating room (OR) layout shapes effective surgical team communication. Dr. Kabo and his colleagues found that operating rooms with greater proximity to high traffic areas were associated with lower communication effectiveness among surgical teams. Architects and designers therefore have a responsibility to design environments that support effective surgical communication that will improve the quality of patient care and safety. Image below: Surgery Floor of a Military Medical Center. Surgical suites such as 1, 2, and 5 have greater proximity to high traffic areas compared to others like 11, A, and B. I've been saying this for years... For some hospitals, positions like this have existed for just as long, but there is lack of much-needed standardization. It's exciting to hear work is being done here considering the shortages imaging professionals are experiencing now. When I was in my radiography program in the 1990s, I was hired as a "Darkroom Tech", meaning duties I was responsible for included patient transport, developing x-ray film, producing film copies, subtraction images, tracking exams for the technologists, etc. The closer I got to graduation, the more they allowed me to do things like prepare barium for exams, screen patients, help set up sterile trays for arthrograms, myelograms, and lumbar punctures, and assist with MRI patient screenings. This set me apart from the other Darkroom Techs (who weren't in x-ray school already learning these skills). I felt like I was becoming a more valuable member of the team prior to being hired as a technologist and I only wished there was a structured method to include others on the team in this training and competency. The same feels true today (minus the film/screen work). With so many technologists retiring and leaving healthcare in radiology now, with the new grad funnels struggling to keep up with the needs, the gaps must be bridged to allow hospital employees, professionals and practitioners to work at the peak of their scope of practice. Efforts like this can free them up to do just that with clearly defined roles and appropriate education and training. Who knows what the possibilities might be with patient satisfaction, productivity, and job satisfaction!
