?? Employee spotlight! ?? TJ Criares has been a rising star at Hot Paper Lantern (HPL), going from intern to communications associate in less than a year. Read about some of his work experience and insights gained so far in the conversation below.? ? HPL: What do you like most about your associate role??? TJC: The opportunity to learn from my experienced colleagues across various areas, including sports, manufacturing, and marketing. ? ? HPL: What news do you read daily to stay on top of trends and the news cycle??? TJC: I read what’s relevant to our clients. On the sports side, publications like Sports Business Journal, Sportico, Front Office Sports, and Sports Illustrated. For general PR/marketing news, I read Ad Age, Ragan Communications and PR Daily, and Marketing Brew. ? ? HPL: What’s a lesson you have learned in your time working at HPL so far? ? TJC: Understanding the importance of staying organized when managing multiple clients’ needs. Effective organization saves time, makes it easier to develop ideas, and enables us to better serve our clients in ways that would not be possible without these skills.?? ? HPL: What’s your favorite aspect of our company culture??? TJC: The balance between high expectations and understanding that we all have the capacity to adapt and grow. This has created a supportive environment, especially in a close-knit agency like HPL.?? ? HPL: What’s a fun fact about you? ? I’m celebrating the one-year mark today! 2023: Started as a Post-Graduate PR Intern 2024: In an AAE role in the brand department My grasp of #PR has evolved so much since I started. Who knew I’d be touching account management, influencer relations, traditional media, and event planning? As a Black man in PR, it’s meant being on the front lines of industry change. I‘ve never let a job title dictate my impact and you shouldn’t either - intern to VP. Here are my favorite moments of 2024 so far: ? Consulting for brands like Homegoods and f'real for how to cater upcoming campaigns to Gen Z ? Receiving the PR Pro Rising To The Top award from the Black Tech Public Relations Society ? Hosting my first-ever audio event for The PR Habitat ? Reading Brooke Govert’s letter of rec for the ADCOLOR Conference and Awards Futures program ?? I leave this advice for the next batch of PR interns.
