The AAPS PharmSci 360 2024 conference is just days away, and I’m excited to share that I’ll be co-presenting alongside Adi Kaushal (Technology Head, Bioavailability Enhancement). Together, we’ll be discussing how Lonza is incorporating sustainability into the manufacture of amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs). ASDs play a vital role in the delivery of poorly soluble drugs and are typically produced via spray drying or hot melt extrusion. By carefully selecting solvents or reducing their usage, we can significantly lower the environmental impact of spray drying. But what if we could eliminate solvents altogether? We’ll explore how identifying suitable candidates for hot melt extrusion early in formulation development could make this possible.
