The town of Monterrico is situated on the Pacific coast of Guatemala in the department of Santa Rosa. Known for its volcanic black sand beaches and annual influx of sea turtles, the town also serves as a major weekend beach resort for citizens of Guatemala City. The town is growing more popular with foreign tourists largely because of the local sea turtle conservation efforts as well as the laid-back atmosphere of the area. El Paredón is a sleepy fishing village on the Pacific Coast of Guatemala. Surfers regard it as one of the best surfing beaches in Central America. Naturalists visit the lagoons and mangrove swamps along the river and in the adjacent Sipacate-Naranjo National Park to see nesting sea turtles and more than 100 species of waterfowl that nest in the protected wetlands. Sipacate is a resort town and municipality on the Pacific coast of Guatemala, in Escuintla Department about 36 kilometers (22 mi) west of Puerto San José. It is promoted as a venue for surfing. Being roughly in the center of the Guatemalan coastline, it is used as a breakpoint for storm warnings Does Guatemala have good surf? One of the best spots to surf in Guatemala, El Paredon offers fast-paced, hollow waves. All levels of surfers are welcome here, although only advanced surfers should go out on those bigger, heavier days.
