Media engagement is one aspect of external engagement which academics may encounter in their careers. When starting out, this can be a volatile environment to navigate, but in time can be a useful enrichment to the more traditional aspects of the academic role. Having recently installed my own children at their respective universities, it was great fun to briefly experience the other side of the coin and give a lecture today to media studies students at NYU London! We discussed crisis communications, media relations and PR - and I learnt a few things too from the students about how they experience the media landscape. #crisiscommunications #mediarelations #publicrelations

Recently, I finished my second term for my Masters in Strategic Communication at Syracuse University. One of the classes I took this term was Advertising and Public Relations Research Design. For the final, I created a full research report for the Brand White Claw. Using secondary, qualitative, and syndicated research along with social media listening, I was able to create some recommendations for the brand moving forward. Community Engagement Coordinator at Nine Circles Community Health Centre What did your path look like to your current position? I shifted from Nine Circles to Brandish | A Creative Agency to focus more on public relations and internal communications. I love working with a communications and growth team at Brandish as we get to share all the cool things that our team is up to and accomplishing. What is your fondest memory of CreComm? The sense of community that the program creates — if you’re looking to learn lots of employable skills, while also creating incredible friends, CreComm is the place for you. What was the most valuable skill you learned in CreComm? The ability to just try — you don’t have time to decide whether or not you are comfortable, you’ll learn what you’re capable of while you’re doing it. What advice do you have to current and/or prospective students in CreComm? There may be classes that you decide aren’t for you, but all the classes are relevant to the communications industry.
