Researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), led by the Department of Energy, have developed a thin, flexible solid-state electrolyte that could significantly enhance energy storage in next-generation batteries for electric vehicles, mobile devices, and laptops. The intercharge network conference (ICNC) once started as a place for charging nerds and start-ups, but has meanwhile evolved into the leading event for the EV charging industry. 3,000 participants were expected to join this year’s event at the iconic Berlin Tempelhof airport. Reliability and profitability are currently two hot topics in the EV charging community and hence became the main themes of the intercharge network conference 2024. While charge point reliability is key to maintain a happy customer base, profitability becomes more and more difficult in an increasingly competitive environment. Battery buffered charging has been around for a while and and will play an even bigger role in the upcoming electrification of commercial vehicles. During panel talks and keynote Q&A sessions everyone agreed that batteries will be needed to overcome the grid limitations.
