?? Bowed tiles ?? To me, the only acceptable bow should be in the hands of Robin Hood ????♂? ?? Most people think a bowed tile is caused during the ‘firing’ of tiles. ?? Did you? Actually, it’s the opposite. Tiles bow during the ‘cooling’ phase of production. ?? Below is a video of a kiln, the centre of which fires porcelain at temps up to 1200oc. After this firing, if tiles are then cooled too fast, they bow. This cause tiles to end up on site sometimes looking more similar to a ??. This is more common with lesser quality factories trying to produce tiles quickly. Thankfully, dealing with the best factories as Mudrak and Sons do, these problems are reduced massively. From my experience, it seems that most lumber mills no longer process hickory on a “whites” schedule. It’s unfortunate, as this traditional method truly brings out the best in hickory’s characteristics, which is why it’s such a highly valued wood for drumsticks and other products. Losing this expertise in favor of more standardized approaches means we risk losing part of what makes hickory so special.
