Hey everyone, it's Deb Spence here, and today I want to talk about something weighing heavy on my heart.
As a Black woman navigating various industries, organizations, and social circles, I've noticed a disheartening trend: Black women being pitted against each other and white women. It's as if there's only room for one woman to succeed, and the rest of us, no matter how hard we work, end up on the outside looking in—defeated, exhausted, and often sick.
This isn't just a coincidence; it's a systemic issue. Society has long conditioned us to believe that there’s a scarcity of opportunities for women and that scarcity is even more pronounced for Black women.
We're forced BY SOME MEN into this competitive survival mode where we're made to believe that another woman's success somehow diminishes our potential.
But let’s be clear: this narrative is not our truth. We don't have to buy into the divide-and-conquer tactics to keep us from our collective power. We are stronger together. When we uplift, share resources, and celebrate each other's victories, we create a ripple effect that benefits us all.
To my Black sisters, know that your success is not a threat to anyone else's. You are worthy of every opportunity, and your brilliance does not go unnoticed. To my allies, recognize these systemic issues and join us in dismantling them. Actual progress means creating spaces where all women can thrive!
Let's stop letting a select few of men be the gatekeepers to our joy and progress.
Let's rewrite this narrative together. Let’s stand in solidarity without fearing being overshadowed or left behind.
Stay strong, stay united, and keep pushing forward.
With love and determination, Deb Spence
