I’ve always struggled with great residential architecture as something that’s wholly one-off. Of course, we all love variety and not feeling like we’re buying a cookie-cutter commodity. Yet, there’s a sensible mid-point. Luxury goods aren’t ‘one of one’, and why should luxury architecture be? With Shack No1., we’ve created a high-end architectural product that’s scalable and replicable, with just the right amount of personalisation, and at a price point which will prompt genuine pause for thought. Simply… Shack.
We teased this a few weeks back... and you can't be all tease and no reveal! For viewing pleasure, a brochure packed full of (dare we say it) architectural awesomeness. Ladies and gentlemen... our flagship residential offer... Shack House No.1. #shack #sustainableinnovation #sustainablearchitecture #sustainableconstruction #shackhouse1

An affordable housing-plus-library proposal by MASS Design Group and The Architectural Team (TAT) was recently selected for construction in Boston’s West End neighborhood. Here’s what you need to know: MASS Design Group and The Architectural Team were selected to design a 12-story mixed-use building in Boston's West End. The project includes 119 affordable housing units for households earning below 80% of the Area Median Income. A new 2-story public library, replacing the existing midcentury library, will be located at the building's base. This was my final university project, part of my bachelor's thesis, which I submitted already two years ago. Since then, I have been working in the field, for Florence Girod in her "Büro für Raumgestaltung", freelance on my own projects and for two semesters as a teaching assistant at BI. These and other experiences have put me in a dilemma: I'm torn between several possible paths. But maybe I don't even have to choose? In any case, the next step is to achieve a Master's degree. During my MA studies, I would like to continue pursuing the topic of my Bachelor's thesis entitled "Memory and Spatial Design: An Exploration of the Collective Memory of Non-Residential Architecture and Interior Design in the Former GDR". My research revealed many unanswered questions that call for further exploration. But here, too, I face the challenge of harmonising academic research and creative practice. I will have to find a good balance between practically applied design research and sociological analysis.
Explore the Bachelor Thesis Design Project by Marielle Kiessig, a sixth-semester student in the BA Interior Architecture/Interior Design program! Her project, "Memory and Spatial Design: Nachbarschaftspavillion," focuses on revitalizing an example of GDR architecture in Karl Marx Allee, Berlin. ?? Marielle's intervention aims to bring new uses to this historic building, extending its life and significance. This thoughtful design preserves the memory of the past while adapting to contemporary needs. The project, guided by Prof. Katrin Brünjes, showcases Marielle's dedication and creativity in preserving and revitalizing historic spaces through innovative design solutions. #DesignInnovation #GDRArchitecture #UrbanRevitalization #InteriorDesign #StudentProject #BerlinInternationalUniversity #Architecture #HistoricPreservation

#ProjectFeature We are thrilled to showcase the latest restoration project at Grand Army Plaza in New York. The Surespan team designed and manufactured two custom-made glazed access hatches located on both ends of the arch. These hatches offer visitors seamless access to the viewing platforms and allow natural light to brighten the interior. The importance of architectural elements such as windows and doors cannot be overstated, particularly in the hands of passionate architects like Brad Hollenbeck. Windows and doors serve more than just a functional purpose, they are instrumental in shaping the overall character, ambiance, and functionality of a space. Hear more from Brad on his design work and the many other hats he wears. #RAMWindows #HomeDesign #Architect

Case study time, this one was led by Callum Brewer from our Planning Team. HIPPODROME CASINO The Hippodrome Casino, London is a 24-hour operational casino located in Leicester Square, London. We were commissioned by Harvey Wright Architects to undertake a noise impact assessment to support a planning application for the extension of the existing roof terrace. The proposals include the provision of an indoor seating area and an ‘open-top’ terrace area with a perforated canopy structure. Our assessment showed that there would not be an adverse noise impact arising from the proposed extension and its associated operation, and providing our acoustic design advice is incorporated, we recommended granting planning consent based on noise.? ? Planning permission was granted in May 2024. ???????????????????? ?????????? ???? ???????????????????? ?????????????????????? | Interior Spaces The organizing principle of the plan defines efficient zones of operation for government business while welcoming the public as ‘participatory observers’ in the democratic process of governance. The Chamber Assembly is seated centrally within the composition. It is flanked by secure spaces for administrative offices at the south while the Lecture Hall and commercial space are set within an expanded frame on the north. The materials and interior finishes of the project were selected on the basis of their sustainability- ensuring best practices for quality, efficiency of the construction, and the minimization of maintenance for a 25-year life cycle. #bryanbullenarchitects #caribbeanarchitecture #caribbeanthoughtleaders #contemporaryarchitect #grenadianarchitect #caribbeanarchitect #tropicalarchitecture #biophillicdesign #sustainablearchitecture
