A recent investigation by Everyday Plastic? and the Environmental Investigation Agency tracking the outcomes of soft plastics collected for recycling ?by UK supermarkets, reinforces the need for a reduction in plastic production and a shift toward truly sustainable alternatives ?? This investigation reinforces the need to replace and reduce plastic use. Consumers want to do the right thing and recycle their waste, but without adequate infrastructure in place unfortunately it’s often not possible. This is why we care about solutions for Zero Waste! Nearly one-quarter of the world’s plastic waste is?actually mismanaged or littered (around 82 million tonnes). This means it’s NOT stored in secure landfills, recycled or incinerated. ?? One-quarter of that – 19 million tonnes – is?leaked to the environment. ???? 13 million tonnes to terrestrial environments, and ???? 6 million tonnes to?rivers or coastlines. ???? 1.7 million tonnes of this is then?transported to the ocean: 1.4 million tonnes from rivers, and 0.3 million tonnes from coastlines. The name Gr?nBl? comes from the Danish word for green-blue and stands for the vision of making our blue planet greener again.

Leading energy consultants Wood Mackenzie just revealed that The Alliance to End Plastic Waste achieved a measly 0.7% of their 5-year plastic reduction target.

A new study published in?Science?has outlined a data-driven approach that, if implemented globally, could reduce plastic waste by over 90% by 2050. These strategies—including recycled content mandates, limits on virgin plastic production, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs, and design standards for reuse and recyclability—are not only feasible but essential. These results demonstrate that care must be taken when formulating policies or interventions to reduce plastic use so that we do not inadvertently drive a shift to nonplastic alternatives with higher GHG emissions. For most plastic products, increasing the efficiency of plastic use, extending the lifetime, boosting recycling rates, and improving waste collection would be more effective for reducing emissions. #circulareconomy #sustainability #plasticsrecycling
