Today we begin learning which party will lead our nation over the next two and four years. You'll be hearing how divided we are as a nation since our inception 248 years ago. Remember 168 years ago we were ending the American civil war which was the most divided we've been. We disagree politically however, our advisories should not assume we're divided as a nation. We fight each other over politics, but fight side by side against anyone who dares to take on the United States of America. I have always been inspired by the compound shape of the final Vulcan wing design; similarly, the Draken, F-18, Concorde, etc. There’s something elegant about the engineering thought process here. Swing wings were also cool but, to my mind, less interesting from a design principle view. In my own field, Boiling Water Reactor control rods evoke similar feelings. They achieve shutdown, power level, power shaping, fuel burnup control, etc. all using the same physical mechanism. The fact that they enter from the bottom of the reactor naturally compensates for the reactivity effects of increasing steam content as the coolant flows upward through the reactor core. BWRX-300, with natural circulation, fine motion control rod drives, in-vessel steam generation, and huge water inventory above active core (and passive emergency cooling) seems to me to be the ultimate realization of simplicity in a light water cooled reactor. #engineering #design

Look carefully, and you'll see that only #1 is looking straight ahead -- everyone else is flying off a spot on a teammate's aircraft. Last Summer, the Ejército del Aire y del Espacio, Luftwaffe - German Airforce and Armée de l’air et de l’espace took part on #PacificSkies24, an unprecedented month-and-a-half-long deployment across four continents. One of the exercises in which these nations participated, along with allied countries, was Pitch Black in Australia. Organised by the Royal Australian Air Force since 1981, Pitch Black is one of the world’s largest military air exercises. Never before has it been on a larger scale than this year’s, with 140 aircraft from 20 countries and more than 4,400 military personnel involved. The #Airbus #A330 MRTT, #A400M and #Eurofighter aircraft were integral to the mission, underscoring Europe’s commitment to the Indo-Pacific region, ensuring cooperation among partners in the region, enhancing joint operational capability and demonstrating the ability to enforce the principles of a rules-based international order in times of crisis.
