I had the privilege of being the Coach (1 of 2 coaches) for a team of 6th graders that competed in the First Lego League Robotics Competition last weekend. FIRST does a phenomenal job of incorporating Robotics, coding, an Innovation Project that tackles real world problems and instilling it's? Core Values (Discovery, Innovation,?Impact, Inclusion,?Teamwork and Fun) into a process that spans roughly 3 months. During this time, kids learn a wide range of skills such as coding, teamwork, problem solving, public speaking, working under pressure and conducting real world research and interviews.
This year our team, the Radioactive Robots, worked on building a deep sea rig for the Mesophotic Zone to collect data and make it safer for deep sea researchers. If you are curious, check out the website they built:
