Among the four most influential things to come out of Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the past 25 years? According to Boston Globe Media: FIRST. “FIRST alumni are 17 percent more likely to declare a major in a STEM-related field in college than their high school peers who took math and science courses, but didn’t participate in the competition.” What began as a small engineering competition in Manchester, New Hampshire founded by prolific inventor Dean Kamen and patterned after a robot-building course at MIT pioneered by the late Dr. Woodie Flowers, is now making a global impact on millions of youth, inspiring them to not only start exploring STEM from a young age, but to pursue an ever-expanding arena of STEM careers after high school graduation. Transforming Education with Engineering Robotics & IB Design: Preparing Students for the Future of AI After leading a discussion with a group of administrators a few weeks ago about the future of education, one question stood out: How can we ensure our students are prepared for a world dominated by AI and technological advancements? That conversation reaffirmed my belief in the power of engineering robotics and design integration as a solution. I’ve successfully woven Engineering Robotics into the IB Design curriculum, merging creativity with real-world applications to foster critical thinking, innovation, and hands-on problem-solving. By incorporating robotics within a product and digital design framework, I’ve enriched—not diluted—the program, providing students with practical skills in engineering and technology that make learning dynamic, engaging, and future-ready with problem focus-solution focus within a Design Thinking framework. And let's be real—robotics isn't just for MIT, NASA, Elon Musk, and Georgia Tech. If you’ve got a student who can make a robot that can do their homework, we might just be onto something! Are you a Design and STEM teacher or EdTech leader looking to transform your curriculum and empower your students for the future? I’m eager to share insights on the best platforms and strategies to integrate engineering robotics into IB Design education. Let’s connect! Inspired by true events- A fictional story based on real-world benefits of STEM & Robotics education Rohan's story: From struggling with math to building a robotic assistant for his grandmother Rohan, a 12-year-old student, struggled to grasp complex math concepts. His grades were average, and his interest in academics was waning. That was until his school introduced STEM and Robotics education. One day, while working on a robotics project, Rohan stumbled upon a real-world problem – his grandmother's struggle to carry heavy grocery bags. He decided to design and build an automated robotic assistant to help her. As Rohan worked on his project, something remarkable happened: Math concepts like algebra and geometry came alive as he calculated gear ratios and designed the robot's structure. Science principles like friction and gravity helped him optimize the robot's movement. Coding skills enabled him to program the robot's actions. Rohan's project not only helped his grandmother but also transformed his academic journey: His math grades soared as he applied theoretical concepts to real-world problems. Science became fascinating as he explored its practical applications. Coding skills improved his problem-solving abilities. Rohan's newfound passion for STEM and Robotics spilled over into other subjects: His language skills improved as he wrote detailed project reports. History and social studies gained relevance as he researched robotic innovations' impact on society. Rohan's story spread, inspiring his peers to explore STEM and Robotics. His school's academic performance improved, and students developed a deeper understanding of interdisciplinary connections. ?????? ???????????? ????????????: Rohan's journey demonstrates how STEM and Robotics education can: Revitalize interest in academics Foster problem-solving skills Develop critical thinking Encourage interdisciplinary connections Prepare students for real-world challenges By integrating STEM and Robotics, schools can create a wave of innovative thinkers, equipped to tackle complex problems and succeed in an ever-evolving world. #STEMeducation #RoboticsInEducation #InnovationInLearning #FutureReady #ProblemSolving #CriticalThinking #InterdisciplinaryLearning #EducationMatters #InspiringStories #EdTech

1 个月First has shaped my childhood. From First Lego League in elementary school all the way up to First Robotics Competition today. I will go to college with experience coding, with CAD and design, CnC, and a full shop of equipment through Engineers of Tomorrow EOT 2783 in La Grange, Kentucky. I will be able to enter a shop at ease from day 1 thanks to experience I got in our community robotics club. We've gone to competition, we've won, we've lost, and we did it all as a team. My engineering career will be owed, in part, to the mentors and sponsors at FIRST. Thanks FIRST, and thanks Massachusetts Institute of Technology #morethanrobots and a special thank you to the sponsors of every community robotics team around the globe. You make a difference.
