Warren Farrer recently brought attention to the Presidency of the Republic of South Africa's focus on the substantial impact of Early Childhood Development (ECD) Programmes for our nation. Amid the multitude of commendable organisations working toward the same goal, I choose to spotlight a fellow advocate, highlighting their commendable efforts alongside his foundation's daily work. At Afrika Tikkun, we too are deeply committed to making a significant impact in this field. Currently, we are extending our reach to nearly 50,000 children nationwide through our ECD programmes, recognising the pivotal role of ECD in propelling the country's long-term progress. The early years of a child's life are critical in determining their future success, highlighting the essential requirement for equal access to comprehensive ECD opportunities to enhance educational outcomes and foster inclusive economic growth for future generations. The Bambanani ECD Programmes by Afrika Tikkun stand as pioneering initiatives in meeting the needs of marginalised communities. By prioritizing the well-being and development of young children, our programmes not only contribute to community empowerment but also lay the groundwork for sustainable economic advancement. Our holistic programmes effort represents a significant step toward effecting systemic change, potentially unlocking transformative possibilities for the youth of our nation. Through joint endeavours that we invite with open arms, we can harness the full potential of our nation's most precious resource – our children. Yesterday, The Presidency of the Republic of South Africa released a statement characterising Early Childhood Development (ECD) as a real revolution for the country's long-term development. The early years of a child's life are crucial in laying the foundations for their future success. Equitable access to comprehensive ECD opportunities is the cornerstone of improved educational outcomes and inclusive economic growth. RCL FOODS, through The Do More Foundation, has been a pioneer in recognising the importance of ECD in impacting impoverished communities. *Early Childhood Development in Gaza: A Blueprint and Urgent Call for Action*? ? The war in Gaza has been catastrophic for its youngest children. Over the past year, Theirworld has being preparing for the call of a ceasefire and partnering with international and local nongovernmental organisations in Gaza to produce a report on the early childhood development crisis in the region.? ? Early childhood needs are often overlooked in humanitarian plans, despite making up over a quarter of the affected population. To address this issue, we need coordinated, cross-sector response, yet no central body is leading in this issue. Theirworld is calling for a global response, offering a two-phase plan to mitigate the long-term impact and ensure young children are not forgotten. Officially embarrassed by association. In #2024. The bigger tragedy is that this is not unique to #SouthAfrica. We are shameful leaders (read adults and custodians of #childrens wellbeing) if we cannot even establish ablution facilities in the legacy we leave for our #children. These facilities are not only undignified, they are dangerous, they are hotbeds for #diseases if they are not maintained, little children at #school are expected to use these, #teachers, with no running #water nearby. Let us collectively hang our heads FAR down in shame. Imagine if private entities were #taxed and #resources allocated to undoing this shame spot and run a mass toilet building #initiative to eradicate EVERY pit #toilet. It's not the money that will stop is the sheer lack of will $power and othering. If our #leaders all contributed a minute percentage of their over inflated salaries towards the pit eradication initiative? That guy there by South African Revenue Service (SARS) earns over 11 million rands. I'm just putting that out there. Since 2020, Sri Lanka faced challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic followed by the economic crisis and we swiftly adapted to meet the urgent needs of children and families.
