I am currently working on a poster concept design for The NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) Program, this particular design is for an evacuated (or vacuum) airship for use as a rover to explore Mars. Instead using a lighter than air gas to give lift, which would not work on the Martian surface. The ship would use a chamber that maintains a vacuum to displace the thin Martian atmosphere to create lift. Although first suggested in the 17th century, these vehicles remained hypothetical, as material strong enough to maintain structure for a vacuum, stand up to air pressure and be light enough haven’t been invented, but the technology is close. Voyager 1 is back online and responding with useful data! Just think about it - NASA people expected Voyager probes will work for about 5 years. And yet they are still going on, for the last 46 years. Sadly, estimates are Voyager 1 has maybe one year of plutonium battery left, but still, the design proved itself, especially considering the technology existing 50 years ago. And once it finally turns off, will keep on going and going through the expanse of space long after all of us are gone, as an evidence we existed and were able to touch the universe. https://lnkd.in/dpMqTfmU

Applications in durable photovoltaics and alpha/beta voltaics will revolutionize remote data monitoring and rover/drone automation. Hardened remote Internet infrastructure can create uninterruptible decentralized Internet without wires and resilient to solar flares. Graphene has a million other uses including membranes and catalysts with applications in carbon removal and chemical manufacturing. They're learning more to build more capable and self powered rovers since they launched Perseverance, a rover/drone combo that is a perfect model for ecosystem agriculture and ecological restoration monitoring as well as industrial monitoring for greenhouse gas emissions.
