Continuing #wildfires in western Canada (particularly British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Northwest Territories) have increased in intensity in recent days resulting in a huge area of thick smoke with high aerosol optical depth (AOD) values. The animation below shows the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) 5-day forecast of organic matter AOD initialized on 18 July at 00 UTC. The forecast also shows traces of smoke reaching northern Alaska from the wildfires in eastern Russia and some of the plumes from fires in the northwestern US.
