We haven't seen 2024 AI yet. Our current best models were trained in '22 or '23. Since then, compute has increased by about ~25x, leaving the good old days of Moore's law in the dust ??????? Moore's Law, which drove the digital revolution of the '90s and early 2000s, only doubled compute every 18 months. AI is now outpacing even the most remarkable gains we witnessed during those transformative years by an order of magnitude, making it hyper-exponential. So, despite the seemingly miraculous performance of some GPT-4 class LLMs, they are still trailing behind the reality of recent hardware advancements. The pace of change is breathtaking, and the implications are profound. Just caught wind of something huge in the AI space - Anthropic's Claude 3.5 Sonnet can now actually use a computer by itself! We're talking about an AI that can move the cursor, click buttons, and type text just like a human would. What blows my mind is that while other tech giants like Microsoft, OpenAI, and Google have been working on screen understanding, Anthropic has taken it a step further by enabling actual computer interaction. They've just released this as "computer use" in public beta for developers. Though it's still in experimental phase (their words: "cumbersome and error-prone"), this feels like a glimpse into the future of AI assistance. It's fascinating to see how quickly we're moving from AI that just processes information to AI that can actually interact!
