One of the changes in the Bela Act is that Grade R is now compulsory and will be the starting grade for basic education instead of Grade 1. Today's discussion in the preschool resulted in critical reflection of photos such as these. These photos that we use of staff are in display illustrating which educators are working. Signs such as mine with the red circle mean that staff are not at the preschool. Children engaged educators questioning why staff who had photos on display such as these were not allowed at the preschool or the bathroom (the photos are displayed on a door leading to an adult bathroom). Children were very confused why educators were not able to belong. Educators entered in critical reflection with children, and the change that has occurred is the removal of these photos.
