Following yesterday's official opened the new Black Mountain Shared Space (BMSS), this short video shows the fantastic facilities within the new building. It will be the new home for the BMSS team which was established in 2010 to break down barriers and improve community relations. The building provides a state-of-the-art base where they can continue to provide vital services while programming more activities which aim to bring together historically divided communities. Alongside Shankill Shared Women’s Centre and Forth Meadow Community Greenway, our other two PEACE IV-funded shared space projects, around ￡21 million has been invested in north and west Belfast to support peace and reconciliation. This has helped create a ‘peace corridor’ stretching from Black Mountain to the city centre in areas which have the highest concentration of peace walls in the city. The project was funded by the EU’s PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) - European Funding. Match-funding has been provided by the Department for Communities and the Department of Rural and Community Development in Ireland. Funding was also provided by Belfast City Council. Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is a government budget allocation mechanism that channels a specific portion of the national budget to the constituencies to finance development projects. As a mechanism, CDF is appreciated because it is perceived as an appropriate tool for the effective delivery of projects, direct financing of community development, facilitation of the local population in development as well as responds directly to the concrete development demands of constituencies. Is CDF working for Mine-Host communities? This is a question left unanswered.
