You can't grow sales without a clear vision from the CEO. It can be a disaster because the sales team get's blamed because they can't hit the number. CEOs need to have a clear vision. They need to communicate that vision clearly and frequently. Everyone needs to know the vision and be able to speak it clearly. When asked, everyone working on that project, including the custodian, could state the mission clearly. When asked what are you working on, they answered, "We're putting a man on the moon."
