Exaggeration of Reality? During the COVID period, many US-focused sponsors realized for the first time the limitations of remote monitoring in the EU—no remote access to patient data allowed, no SDV. This caused significant distress and meltdowns. Now, in the post-COVID era, sponsors are more aware of the strict data protection laws in the EU. In bid defenses, US-based sponsors often ask CROs how they manage this aspect, in case on-site visits become limited again. My advice: be prepared and review your SOPs. If your company doesn’t have a guideline for this scenario, suggest developing one! How do you answer this question? For those that believe there is some validity in #ai certification, but don’t believe in central control or “assurance labs”, there is an emerging set of voices advocating for a “federated” register populated using local control, similar to the “clinical trials” model.
