I am very curious, as are many, to see what changes the #state of #Indiana will be making to these #waivers. There are many people watching to see how the state is going to be addressing the severe lack of services. Hopefully there will be positive change. Not just cuts to try and fix the debacle with the aged and disabled waiver making it even harder to receive services for these vulnerable populations and their families. Our Structural Determinants of Health are all connected. My work in social justice is rooted in a deep commitment to creating equitable pathways for repair, and collective healing. I believe that addressing systemic inequalities begins with acknowledging the historical and present-day barriers that disproportionately impact Black communities. Through initiatives like Fight Blight Bmore, I’ve worked to highlight and tackle the interconnected issues of urban blight, housing insecurity, and racial injustice, such as those explored in The Anatomy of Blight Report. Housing security is a cornerstone of my efforts because stable housing lays the foundation for individual and community well-being. Community development, to me, means more than revitalizing physical spaces—it’s about investing in people and fostering environments where they can thrive economically, socially, and emotionally. Healing is central to my approach because the challenges our communities face—displacement, systemic neglect, and generational trauma—demand restorative solutions. By integrating wellness, cultural sustainability, and opportunities for economic empowerment, I aim to create spaces where individuals and communities can heal and grow.
