I love these! The embodiment of these values should be shared amongst all members of the design team. I know as structural engineers we certainly strive to work with these these ideals at top of mind. I’ll add that being clear about the scope and sticking to it is an important aspect of our work. That goes along with with #5: referring others when the work is outside your scope.
12 ways architects can bring value without drawing anything. These are for architects, but I bet any client would value them ???? 1. Be honest about the cost of delivering a great project 2. Say "I don't know" when you don't know 3. Tell the truth about timelines 4. Protect the budget like it's your own 5. Offer referrals when it's outside your scope 6. Listen more, talk less. (ask the right questions) 7. Don't assume you know the solution to their problem 8. Highlight the risks and opportunities of decisions 9. Be upfront when things aren't going well 10. Educate on topics that may be new (carbon) 11. Show "what has worked" in the past 12. Coordinate before it's too late Who's got some to add to this list? _______________________ If you like my content give me a follow and hit the bell. ??The Architect has a pretty cool job! ??What is the one thing you need that no one can take away from you? So following on from yesterday's post(1) about Enterprise Architecture and the Zachman Framework, I thought it might be good to share a few thoughts about being an architect. Gregor Hohpe talks about the Architect Elevator(2), where the architect travels between layers in the enterprise from the penthouse boardroom on the top floor right down the factory floor/engine room in the basement. In my line of work this often involves changing out of a suit & tie into hardhat & safety boots. A good architect gets involved in every layer of the business, and as Tom De Wolf says "Your job is to make other people smarter, so they can make better decisions."(3) Architects have a solid grasp of their own tacit knowledge(4) and are able to leverage and preserve collective tacit knowledge(5) in a way they become guardians of institutional memory. In my view, in order to become an architect you need the one thing that no one can ever take away from you - EXPERIENCE. So to all my Industry 4.0 friends out there, how do you see your role in relation to the architect? Do you interact at all layers of the enterprise or just manufacturing on the factory floor? P.S. Thank you for liking and commenting on my ninth post in this series, your feedback and contribution to the conversation means a lot! P.P.S I'll be publishing a weekly digest and long form content via The Connected Integrated Show 1. https://lnkd.in/dYkJz-4r 2. https://lnkd.in/dsRZufYM 3. https://lnkd.in/dDpUQUeu 4. https://lnkd.in/dFcXSbzK 5. https://lnkd.in/dFt_szq3

Curious about the cost of hiring an architect? Architectural fees are typically structured in three ways: i) A percentage of the total construction cost (usually 5-15%). ii) A fixed fee, calculated based on estimated hours per project stage. iii) Hourly rates, billed as time is tracked. Personally, I prefer the fixed-fee model. It provides both transparency and predictability, ensuring my clients and I have a clear understanding from the outset. What is your preferred method of calculating a fee and why? #ArchitectFees #TransparencyInDesign #Architecture #ProjectPlanning #TransparentPricing
