We didn't see it coming but we're glad it did! On Tuesday our Raleigh City Council elevated felspar founding architect, Jason Dail AIA to Commissioner, standing as a regular member of the Raleigh Design Review Commission. For Jason, and felspar, it is an honor, and we are humbled by the Mayor and City Council's decision to elevate our service to the city, and it's people. We are excited to see the growth in Raleigh, and delighted to help our city grow in ways that enrich all of our lives.? #cityofraleigh ?#raleigharchitect? #communityservice

Not THAT John Goodman. The Boss at John Goodman PR. Survivor of ABC & CBS News. A Red Sox fan trapped behind enemy lines in Westchester County. e-mail: [email protected]
Deck parks - greenspaces covering urban highways & atop buildings - are expanding all over the county. From Klyde Warren Park in Dallas to Salesforce Park in San Francisco. More may be coming. In NYC, urban planners and architects have envisioned several deck parks built atop the traffic choked, polluted and reviled Cross Bronx Expressway...in Austin, city planners are considering building a green space cap over Interstate-35.... and Detroit is also considering a similar deck park above I-75. Our client Dan Biederman, president of Biederman Redevelopment Ventures (BRV). writes in Planetizen about?how cities are now recognizing the value and significance of these urban green spaces. Here's his column: https://lnkd.in/eVTK7iCT? Thx. to Diana Ionescu

As seen in RealClear Policy, an op-ed by the School of Architecture and Design’s Evan Shieh, M.S. AUD, contends that congestion pricing is an opportunity for New Yorkers to re-envision their city’s landscape. This would allow the city to create urban spaces that prioritize people over cars, transforming space previously dedicated to parking and driving into pedestrian-friendly areas, parks, and other public uses that benefit city residents' quality of life. https://buff.ly/4fs8oC9

The UCLA Ziman Center for Real Estate, in partnership with cityLAB UCLA, the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs Department of Urban Planning, the UCLA Architecture and Urban Design, and the UCLA Lewis Center for Regional Policy Studies , invite you to “Housing the Just City: How Urban Design Can Contribute to a More Affordable and Inclusive City” – a weekly speaker series that aims to investigate the interplay of affordable and accessible housing, the built environment of cities, the policies that advance equitable, inclusive neighborhoods, the architecture of collective living, and the role of urban design. Recent tragedies have placed housing justice at the forefront of political agendas across the nation once again. Housing affordability is not only an economic challenge; it is a significant social challenge. This series explores these themes and aims to reshape the contours of the conversations about housing, urban design, cities and regions. Come join the conversation every Thursday from 12:30 - 1:50pm this Winter Quarter either virtually via Zoom or in-person at the UCLA Public Affairs Building Room 4320A (on 2/6 and 2/27, it will be in Room 4240A).
