The first significant revision to the Head Start Program Performance Standards is anticipated to be published by the Office of Head Start tomorrow, Wednesday, August 21, 2024. The Final Rule has the ability to take effect 60 days following its official release. As the first significant revision to the Head Start Program Performance Standards since 2016, there are many adopted changes of note, including: - Adopted workforce supports with some adjustments. - Adopted change to limit case loads of family service staff. - Codified the clarification for eligibility for Migrant and Seasonal Head Start. - Plus, several other updates. In research we published last year, we found that a shocking 22% of respondents had faced disciplinary action in their workplace due to their migraine. Conner is one of that 22%. Here, he tells us about his experience of facing disciplinary action after a migraine-related absence, and the added stress of not being believed. For many with migraine, their facing disciplinary action relates to absence. We know that absence management policies can be ill-equipped to support those with conditions such as migraine, which can involve repeated shorter-term absences. As in Conner’s experience, increased understanding of migraine among managers and colleagues can be pivotal in improving the workplace situation of staff living with migraine. Our workplace training sessions are a great way of increasing awareness.
