Putting Learning into Action: Market Day! Aaloo lelo, Aaloo ki chips lelo at Aarth Bazaar! 1-2s explored the unit ‘Market’ where we explored what markets are and how they facilitate an exchange of goods and services between consumers and producers. This unit also involved analysing different types of markets, the roles of producers and consumers, and the journey products take from being made to reaching customers (production and transportation). To apply the knowledge we gained, in a real-world context and to solidify our understanding of markets, we created a market within our school community. We haven't just created a market, we’ve also become the producers ourselves! We experienced what it takes to grow, make, and sell products. Here's what we produced: Vegetables and fruits: We planted saplings in our school garden to grow fresh produce. Potato chips: We transformed raw potatoes into delicious potato chips in our classroom! Sago chips: We created another kind of chips, this time using sago as the base. By selling our homegrown and homemade products to our school community, we got to know what it's like to be a vendor in a market. We understood how customers interact with the products we created.

Wondering how to integrate STEM into early education? Check out this post.
Last week, I had the pleasure of facilitating a fun and engaging #ScienceEducation activity with my students. We extracted DNA from various fruits, using strawberry DNA as the control for many reasons. It was truly exhilarating to see my students eagerly learning and mastering the techniques of #DNATechniques. #STEMEducation The other fruit in this experimental activity was bananas. I also asked my students to repeat this activity at home as a project and write a lab write up with other fruits like blueberries and apples, etc. I also asked my students to do it with their parent, siblings, and family members. Have fun at it! Parents, try it with your children and have fun doing it. There's no need to break the bank. It only requires fruits, 70 percent Isopropyl Alcohol, salt, Ziploc bags, distilled water, filter paper (coffee filter paper), funnel, and small cups. Use your kitchen utensils. Have fun! What does bee loss mean for our food supply? The following is an excerpt from a secondary curriculum I've been working on. There are a lot of pieces out there for primary students, but a shortage of curriculum for junior and high school. It can be a dark subject because the loss of pollinators is not a light matter. A good curriculum can present the problems without sugar coating them, but also provide actionable tasks that could make a difference in the next generation. __________________________________________________________________ These are just some of the foods pollinated by bees? Squashes, Cucumbers, Eggplants, Cherries, Blueberries, Grapes, Peaches, Pears, Grapefruit, Tomatoes, and Strawberries?

The Surge Milking machine- 100 year old technology that put me through college. FOOD & AG Minute: little bites of information to feed your curiosity. Ever wonder how cows are milked? A hundred years ago, the leap from hand milking to mechanical #milking propelled the dairy farmers forward allowing for greater #milk production and a more consistent milking experience for the cow. I grew up using Surge Buckets just like those seen in this video taken at the World Dairy Expo. We ran a successful Grade B dairy operation - one that helped put me and my siblings through college. I kearned a lot from this 100 year old technology - the value of knowing how to repair equipment (my dad regularly would maintain and adjust the pulsators) the best way to carry a full bucket of milk from the end of the stancion barn to the milk tank and the importance of consistent sanitation methods for cleaning the equipment. The Surge Milk Bucket was invented by Herbert McCormack. He used a large roasting pan from his family kitchen as the base to design his new milking machine. According to surgemilker.com this revolutionary milker would hang under the cow suspended on a steel spring rod that was attached to a leather surcingle strap over the cows back. The new Surge Milker used the proven Pine Tree pulsator designed to be easy to clean and maintain. I have a soft spot in my heart for this technology that is now considered a part of history. #dairy #cows #farmer

The majority of my food systems work is in the Pacific Northwest, and my highest areas of focus center along the I-5 corridor between Portland and Seattle out to Yakima/Sunnyside, WA. And within this triangle are really good things with innovative rethinking of decades long conversations and half-realized ideas within municipal and governmental sectors in our region. The City of Seattle's Food team is advancing some reformation and re-operationalizing of very simple ways to move the dial through actions on local and regional food product purchasing and sustaining our regional leadership in small regenerative non-toxic farming, growing, raising, tending, and cultivating of our local food economy. A recent announcement on the City of Seattle website "Seattle’s Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program Connects Students to Wholesome Foods and Positive Outcomes" highlights Gurdeep Gill and her work in the City's food innovation work: https://lnkd.in/g_4Z-a6c This shift in municipalities is providing a very important leverage and building support for more localized purchasing of fresh and prepared food products; from fresh greens and berries, to meats, tribal fish, grains, and legumes, both raw and processed. #insideoutsidechange #localtoregionalfoodsystem #equityinfoodsystems #foodisinfrastructure

Have you ever felt like you were on the edge of burnout, with stress mounting and no clear way to manage it? ?? Recently, I had the privilege of hosting a Q&A session on wellness and my services at Be A Pal.net. It was an eye-opening experience that reminded me of the profound impact stress and burnout can have on our lives. One of the most common questions I received was, "How do you manage stress in such a demanding field?" It's a question that resonates deeply with many of us, whether we're in healthcare, IT, or any other high-pressure industry. The truth is, stress is an inevitable part of modern life. But it doesn't have to control us. During the session, I shared some strategies that have been incredibly effective for me and my clients: 1. Mindful Breathing: Taking just a few minutes each day to focus on your breath can work wonders. It helps center your mind and reduce anxiety. 2. Yoga and Stretching: Incorporating yoga into your daily routine can help release physical tension and promote mental clarity. It's a beautiful fusion of ancient wisdom and modern practice. 3. Silent Mind: Embracing moments of silence can be incredibly rejuvenating. It allows you to connect with your inner self and find peace amidst the chaos. 4. Joyful Conversations: Engaging in meaningful, positive conversations can uplift your spirit and provide a sense of community and support. 5. Servant Leadership: Leading with empathy and compassion not only benefits your team but also nurtures your own well-being. These practices have not only helped me manage stress but have also enhanced my overall well-being and effectiveness as a leader. If you're struggling with stress or burnout, I encourage you to explore these strategies. They might just be the key to unlocking a more balanced and fulfilling life. What are some of your go-to methods for managing stress? I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Let's support each other on this journey to wellness. #Wellness #StressManagement #BurnoutPrevention
