As a company headquartered in North Carolina, we are heartbroken by the historic devastation of our western counties by Hurricane Helene. Despite heroic efforts by first responders, the National Guard, utility crews and relief workers, the hardest hit communities still remain cut off, with gas, food, water, electricity and cellular service difficult if not impossible to obtain. Many communities in Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida have also endured terrible destruction. While our sites were spared, we will all know colleagues, friends, family, neighbors and clients who are impacted. In the face of such a disaster and suffering, it’s hard to know the best course of action and support. But by pulling together, we can make a difference. We urge you to consider joining Alcami in donating to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund to help our neighbors in their long recovery. Or, if you already have a relationship with a reputable non-profit that you trust to carry out relief services, donate directly to them or consider the American Red Cross or Salvation Army. When Hurricane Helene hit, it wasn’t just a disaster—it hit close to home. With areas impacted just 120 miles away, we felt the urgency to do more than just offer thoughts and prayers. That’s why #HMSCares (non-profit arm of Hirschfeld Marketing Solutions) has taken action to provide both immediate relief and support for long-term recovery. Right after the storm, we delivered essential supplies to communities cut off by washed-out roads and communication breakdowns. Now, we’re focusing on rebuilding for the future. In Avery County, we’re teaming up with local fire departments and churches to coordinate help where it’s needed most—whether that’s supplies, financial support, or manpower. We’re also partnering with #ChiefCares (Eric Church’s non-profit) to help build 100 new homes in the area, and we’re aiming to fund 100 refrigerators or washer/dryer units for these homes. Recovery takes a village, and there are plenty of ways you can pitch in. Hurricane Helene recovery update: East Tennessee How to help our region ???? 10/7/24 DONATIONS/SUPPLIES Every place that takes them is inundated. Unless you’re answering a specific need, let’s hold off on donations for a while. This can help volunteers redirect their time from sorting donations to more pressing needs. VOLUNTEERS Churches and schools throughout the region need your help organizing and distributing donations. They need delivery drivers with four-wheel drive. They need people to help neighbors clean houses, cut trees, remove debris. Everyone is exhausted and they need your help. HEAVY EQUIPMENT If you or anyone you know has a way to get earth-moving equipment into these neighborhoods, let me know. I can help coordinate. Roan Mountain is one example. Spruce Pine is another. People are trapped due to trees down, large debris, bridges washed out. We need help clearing paths. MONETARY DONATIONS Cleanup and rebuilding will continue in the months and years to come.
