August is National Civic Health Month. The National Civic League has created a civic health index that includes seven components of community-based civic capital: engaged residents, inclusive community leadership, collaborative institutions, embracing diversity and equity, authentic communication, a culture of engagement, and shared vision and values. Here in Arkansas, it is in our best interests, and in the best interests of our children and grandchildren, that we elect leaders who make it their mission to create and sustain civic health infrastructure that empowers the citizens of Arkansas to build livable communities where we all can thrive together. Imagine living in a safer Wisconsin. ?? Despite our differences, we all want this. Myself and 27 other Uniters from Milwaukee, Washington, Walworth, Racine, and Kenosha county are now tasked as part of Uniting to Prevent Targeted Violence (UPTV) to work with Urban Rural Action, Near West Side Partners (NWSP), New Beginnings APFV, Kenosha Human Development Services, NAMI Southeast Wisconsin, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to communicate with community leaders, assess data, and implement new strategies to decrease targeted violence in Southeastern Wisconsin. I’ll use the skills I learned from Forward 48 to communicate and bring together leaders on both sides of the political aisle for one powerful goal - Peace. This is something I’ve always wanted to do. Use my creative problem-solving skills from marketing to improve the community and save lives, not just help the ROI of a business. Between now and the November election, we have a lot of work to do. The goal is to have this completed by September, 2025. SFG is a collaborative statewide initiative dedicated to integrating research-based Protective Factors into services for families and children. During Fiscal Year 2023, SFG made significant progress by refreshing its strategic plan and evaluation efforts. The expansion efforts have resulted in 17 new partnerships, allowing SFG to extend the reach of the five Protective Factors through various family support programs. Through these initiatives and participation in key events, SFG continues to empower families and strengthen communities, creating a more resilient Georgia for future generations. I really appreciated the thought that went into this session. It combined the wisdom of people who have experienced human services with the efforts of people designing the IT systems to help our states, counties, and cities better serve our children and families. Thrilled to share the launch of the new project "Insecure Lives and the Policy Disconnect" I will be working on alongside colleagues from the Centre for The Analysis Of Social Exclusion and the universities of Leeds, Bristol, Ulster, De Montfort, Huddersfield and Sheffield Hallam. The project develops the concept of 'multiple insecurities' and explores how people experience multiple issues around money, housing, work, health and caring responsibilities. We will show the impact of the experience of multiple insecurities, how these combine and may prevent access to opportunities, harm wellbeing and make some people not able to benefit from polices to support disadvantaged areas. In turn, these policies may not be able to achieve their full potential. We will be building on this new evidence base to support policy-making around what can be done. https://lnkd.in/ezVx85Vp

Economic stability is key to health. Wealth disparities that overburden communities of color are a root cause of minority health disparities. As we celebrate the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health #MinorityHealthMonth, and its theme of addressing the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) that drive health disparities, we lift up our partner Aaron E. Henry Clinic (AEH), a Federally Qualified Health Center, and their community partners in Clarksdale, Mississippi for building person- and family-centered solutions to foster economic equity to drive health equity. AEH serves the rural Mississippi Delta, an area marked by deep intergenerational poverty and racial inequality across sectors that create racial, health, and social disparities. Since late 2022, AEH has worked with Southern Bancorp, a certified Community Development Financial Institution, to secure funding, design, and launch a patient care delivery model that promotes universal coordinated access to comprehensive resources to address SDOH, with an emphasis on economic stability, mobility, health, and wellness. This work is designed to advance health equity, justice, diversity, and inclusion while building the groundwork for stronger community health systems and addressing mental and physical health disparities. ??? IIGH, in collaboration with the KSOM Department of Population and Public Health Sciences, over the past year developed and adopted these Principles of Local and Global Engagement to guide all aspects of our research, education, and community programs. We collaborate with a broad range of civil society, academic, government, and UN partners, in the United States and around the world. We recognize our responsibility as an academic institution based in the global north to operate ethically and equitably within these partnerships. These eight principles form the backbone of how we seek to engage with partners worldwide and provide actionable guidance for our work. Aligned with international human rights norms, these principles emphasize respect for human rights as central to ethical and equitable engagement. Our commitment to justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility is integrated into all areas of our work. This National Partnership for Child Safety convening is a genuine milestone in the application of safety science to child protection. Moving away from a knee-jerk “blame game” response when critical incidents occur, safety science offers an evidence-based way to identify the factors that influence child protective decision-making, with the goal of preventing future child fatalities and serious injuries. It shifts the focus to system improvements that will have a greater long-term impact on saving lives. https://lnkd.in/eDhqWu-y
