Those who wish to donate to Habitat’s response to Hurricane Helene can do so at?https://lnkd.in/ek6bC86X. Habitat for Humanity International is currently collecting reports of damage from local Habitat organizations in roughly 150 communities across eight states. (The other five states impacted by Helene are: South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio.) Teams on the ground will continue to survey the destruction in the coming days as they navigate widespread power, water and gas shortages. Habitat’s role will primarily be in the long-term recovery of disaster-stricken communities, following the immediate response. Long-term recovery is among the greatest challenges in disaster response and recovery, particularly as communities work to ensure the lower-income populations that Habitat serves are not left behind. Hurricane Helene recovery update: East Tennessee How to help our region ???? 10/7/24 DONATIONS/SUPPLIES Every place that takes them is inundated. Unless you’re answering a specific need, let’s hold off on donations for a while. This can help volunteers redirect their time from sorting donations to more pressing needs. VOLUNTEERS Churches and schools throughout the region need your help organizing and distributing donations. They need delivery drivers with four-wheel drive. They need people to help neighbors clean houses, cut trees, remove debris. Everyone is exhausted and they need your help. HEAVY EQUIPMENT If you or anyone you know has a way to get earth-moving equipment into these neighborhoods, let me know. I can help coordinate. Roan Mountain is one example. Spruce Pine is another. People are trapped due to trees down, large debris, bridges washed out. We need help clearing paths. MONETARY DONATIONS Cleanup and rebuilding will continue in the months and years to come.
