Mike realized there was an overwhelming need for backpacks and supplies for the Detroit Public School students. He took on that mission and as of last year over 300,000 backpacks were donated to Michigan students. ???? Mike hosts Meet Your Best Friend event, where not only does he host the event two times a year and donates to the Michigan Humane, but he also pays for pets to be shown on local TV and will pay for those featured pets adoption fees! ???? Mike has also stepped out of his comfort zone (Personal Injury) into criminal defense to help free Michael Anthony Griffin, a man who had spent over 13 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. David L. Thomas, MBA - ?? David and his team believe in boots on the ground with big and small events for their communities. They get in front of their audience with these events, and pull their members into building the community around these charities need/want. When businesses invest in their communities they improve the environment they operate in. In turn, these improvements lead to a better quality of life for their residents. It is about understanding the community's need, supporting the local causes, and contributing to a shared vision. This builds trust, loyalty, and long term relationships. The emotional toll of not being able to care for a loved pet due to financial constraints is a reality many families confront. Every year, in the U.S alone, over 500,000 pets go untreated as their families simply cannot afford the veterinary bills. This not only leads to unnecessary suffering for the innocent creatures but also triggers enormous sadness among family members. A multitude of non-profits nationwide are stepping up to bridge this gap. Offering low-cost care, flexible payment plans, and donation-driven services, they strive to ensure no pet is denied essential medical care due to affordability. It's an admirable initiative, but is it enough? It's a question on which I invite your due consideration and debate. Fifteen years ago, we moved our family to New Paltz, NY, in Ulster County, from 90 miles south in NJ where I grew up much closer to NYC in a densely populated area. We did it on purpose, for ourselves -- not only was it not related to a career necessity, but my wife actually left behind a promotion and it increased the amount of travel I would need to do for my business. It was a lifestyle and quality of life move for us to live and be in one of our favorite, most beautiful outdoor places, with a lot of culture and history, too, that you’d expect of a college town in the Hudson Valley. A big part of the reason it was so attractive to us, and continues to be a source of substantial joy and gratitude in our lives, was the hard work and resources that the communities in the region put in to preserving this special area the way it is. I have tried to give back with my service on the boards of, and ongoing donations to, local organizations such as the Wallkill Valley Land Trust (WVLT) and Sustainable Hudson Valley, as well as ongoing support for Mohonk Preserve, among others. There are also other ways to support these types of organizations that may resonate with you, and as part of your legacy. In addition to the ways WVLT mentions, link below (via your will and listing as a beneficiary on financial accounts), you can also include one or more as a beneficiary for a certain percentage in a life insurance policy (e.g., loved one(s) can retain majority of death benefit, if needed, while some goes to one or more charities). For those seeking to reduce a current year tax bill now, even dropping to a lower tax bracket, there are also donor advised funds.
