The best thing about being a hydrogeologist is everything about it: 1 - Undertaking Geophysical surveys based on geology and project for siting a boreholes that the community or any end-user requires for whatsoever purpose 2- Successfully drilling the well with good yield under steady state and sustainable conditions or merely for monitoring purpose 3 - Conducting hydrogeochemical analysis to determine the water quality for consumption or just baseline studies etc 4 - Providing recommendations and guidance in accordance with pertinent SANS and other regulatory or legislative frameworks 5 - Monitoring the groundwater and visualising the time series of parameters where anthropogenic may have influence or perhaps alter the natural state of GW Do you want to know what’s most fabulous about hydrogeology and environmental work? 1 - TO GO BACK GO BACK TO THE SAME SUCCESSFUL BOREHOLES YOU DRILLED YEARS AND YEARS BACK AND SEE HOW THEY ARE STILL POSITIVELY IMPACTING THE COMMUNITY OR SOMEONE ELSE, OR JUST ADDRESSING THE PROJECT SCOPE ISSUES??????????…IT TASTE LIKE NANDOS CHICKEN TO ME??????

Did you know? Federal legislation is providing billions of dollars to states in Appalachia to assist in plugging abandoned and orphan wells. These programs are still in their early stages, creating a great opportunity for new technologies, plugging companies, and expertise to get involved. ?? Understanding the complexity of these programs can be overwhelming, but we've got you covered! Join us for a free webinar with Jeff Walentosky and Justin Wagner, chairs of the Well Plugging Workgroup through the Marcellus Shale Coalition. Jeff, a licensed professional geologist, and Justin, a licensed engineer, will discuss business and community opportunities, funding mechanisms, and eligibility requirements for companies looking to participate. ?? Mark your calendars and don't miss out on this valuable opportunity to learn more about well plugging efforts in Appalachia. Let's work together to make a positive impact on our environment and communities! https://bit.ly/3A11g0p #WellPlugging #Appalachia #Webinar #EnvironmentalImpact #CommunityDevelopment

Looking to explore for groundwater on a smaller scale? The OKM GeoSeeker Mini is a portable geophysical tool that can be helpful for identifying potential groundwater locations. While it's not a substitute for a comprehensive hydrogeological survey, it can be a useful first step for: - Landowners: Looking for potential well locations on their property. - Small-scale projects: Locating shallow water sources. - Environmental investigations: Preliminary assessments of potential water contamination sites. It's important to note that the OKM GeoSeeker Mini provides limited data compared to professional hydrogeological surveys. For a more accurate picture of the subsurface, consider combining this tool with other methods or consulting with a hydrogeologist. #groundwaterexploration #watermanagement #portablesurveys

Geoscience Australia has completed its first regional hydrogeological assessment of the Kati Thanda - Lake Eyre Basin in central Australia. This work signifies the first catchment-scale assessment of the region’s vitally important shallow groundwater resources, and is a major part of the Exploring for the Future program's National Groundwater Systems project. Working across boundaries in SA, NSW, the NT and QLD, the assessment has produced new hydrogeological insights and enhanced knowledge of fundamental groundwater systems and processes. Specifically, the major Cenozoic depositional centres of the Callabonna and Tirari sub-basins, as well as the Cooper Creek Palaeovalley. The results of this investigation illustrate the value of regional hydrogeological assessments, providing greater access to quality data to improve the management and decision-making of Australia's major groundwater systems. When arriving at a site or forming a hydrogeological department, many of us face a lack of understanding from local specialists. Often, this isn't due to them undervaluing our work but simply not understanding what we do and how we can be useful. Instead of engaging in lengthy debates about the importance of our profession, it's better to start by taking action. Perform your tasks, participate in hydrogeological surveys, and attend meetings. This will help your colleagues realize that we indeed provide valuable contributions. However, this is only the beginning of a long and challenging journey. Once you have some statistics on the data you've collected, start explaining to other specialists how your work helps the site and what risks you mitigate. If you have found a way to save the site money, be sure to report this to your management. Otherwise, the benefits of your work may go unnoticed. In deposits, people are often non collaborative and do not want to change anything in their activities. When planning your work, use common sense and do not indulge the wishes of other employees, as you will later be responsible for your work. For instance, if you need to conduct a pumping test in an underground mine and there are no loggers, you'll need help with measurements. In such cases, someone might push you to complete the task quickly on your own, but this can lead to serious consequences. Your area of responsibility is yours, which means if something happens related to water, you are the one accountable, not the person giving unsolicited advice. Remember: on-site, it's important not only to do your job but to do it well, despite external pressures. Good luck to everyone in your work!
