In our daily lives, access to showers and hygiene items is something many of us take for granted. For the homeless, however, these basic necessities can be hard to come by. Project Outpour is making a significant impact by providing the homeless community with the opportunity to take showers and access hygiene items. This simple act can restore dignity, promote health, and offer a sense of normalcy. Statistics show that on any given night, more than 550,000 people in the United States experience homelessness. Hygiene is not just a matter of comfort; it's essential for health and well-being. By supporting Project Outpour we are helping to bridge this critical gap. Join us in making a difference. #SupportTheHomeless #ProjectOutPour #DignityForAll #EndHomelessness #HealthAndHygiene #CommunityCare For more information on how you can help, visit www.projectoutpour.org Let's come together to ensure that everyone has access to these basic human needs.

Hello, I am posting on behalf of my Mum. As many of you will know, she sadly died suddenly in May. We have had an incredible outpouring of sympathy and well wishing. With this in mind, we couldn’t fit everyone who wished to say farewell to her at the funeral due to capacity issues. We will be holding a celebration of her life on the 19th of October at the V&A Dundee. Please complete the form below if you would like to attend. Please also share as you see fit, with people I won’t be able to reach. Thanks in advance. Johnny H https://lnkd.in/eT8xwT9C Any questions please let me know directly.

Today we mark the anniversary of the 2008 formal apology to Australia’s Stolen Generations who were forcibly removed from their families and communities when they were children, through race-based policies set up by both State and Federal Governments in 1910 and continued as recently as the 1970s. We recognise the trauma experienced and ongoing for the Stolen Generations survivors and acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were separated from family, community and culture. Through hearing their stories, and ongoing deep listening, we hope to join in on the healing journey and to be part of the solution into the future. Last year we launched our second Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The RAP outlines 27 actions with 109 corresponding deliverables that inform and improve our practice. These deliverables were developed from consultations held across the country including truth-telling with Aboriginal Elders. We continue our deep listening so together we can support better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, communities, and families.

As we pause to remember the events of September 11, 2001, we reflect on the resilience, bravery, and unity that brought us together in the face of tragedy. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the strength found in community, not just in moments of crisis, but in everyday acts of compassion and support. Let’s honor the legacy of those we lost by continuing to come together, uplift one another, and strengthen the bonds within our communities. #NeverForget #September11 #PolygonCompositesTechnology

Well hello to LinkedIn network! How has your 2024 started so far? My world right now is filled with packing boxes in last stages of preparing for my homecoming back to Melbourne. As I take hold of each item to pack, using the Kondo method - does this spark joy? What has been the ‘story’ of the vase, item of clothing that t-shirt from Eurovision in Malmo, the painting I bought in a flea market or the egg flip that has been in the family and is 60ys old! It’s taken longer to pack, assess, identify then decide what do I need for the next stage! Some things are of course from my Mum’s possessions, and represent her history. This brings me to the synergy of how do we prepare for implementing next stages of MAA’s strategic plans? What opportunities will arise from the new draft Act - a pivotal time for age care sector. And what do we need to help spark joy for our community, members, partner organisations?… most importantly, how can we make greater impact for older people’s lives in 2024?. Now, that sparks ?? joy ??. This can be the year we recognise that spiritual care is at the heart of transformation in aged care, the role of a spiritual care practitioner as a professional is elevated to where they should be - as recognised, endorsed members of every care delivery setting. Recognition of skilled SC practitioners, using world leading National Guidelines, integrating validated spiritual care assessment tools. Whom are able to recognise and respond to spiritual distress or other trauma, key advocates and allies for all diversity, beliefs and cultural traditions. The trained listener, helping older people to identify and connect with meaning and purpose through the next phase of life and events, the ultimate ageism breakers, the people who can walk alongside - offer hope, empower and role model ways for others in how to hear people’s inner narrative, and work within a multidisciplinary approach. It’s a human right. We need spiritual care to be recognised and funded, to be respected and counted in AN-ACC, in 200 minutes of care, and spiritual care to be fully integrated into models of care. A normal way of doing business. These thoughts came into focus over the past few weeks of inner reflection, time of transformation can sometimes be hard when deliberating and considering the merits and costs. When initiatives are good, the needs and enough momentum exists… sometimes timing is simply perfect, the right things just flow into place. I’m filled with quiet optimism that this time is here. I leave you a beautiful example of a short video from one of our members that came into my LinkedIn feed today (in this case coming from a faith based perspective, spiritual care is also confidently delivered in non-faith based organisations too) - take time to watch, and you’ll see how this can be done and why the gentle people working in spiritual care do more than you may ever know…
WATCH ?? Hear from Resthaven’s Coordinating Chaplains and volunteer Chaplains’ Assistants, who engage with residents at all of Resthaven's aged care homes. They support residents of all faiths – respecting the dignity and sacredness of each individual’s unique spiritual journey. Coordinating Chaplain, Rev. Steve Blacket, shares, 'The wealth and richness of residents' life experiences is very rewarding to work with.'

Gov. Wes Moore, sadly, another young person lost and another family and school traumatized by senseless violence. Also, sadly, a post I wrote just a day ago became outdated before sunset. I wrote about the 45th school shooting of the year, and now Maryland is home to the 46th. Most won’t read my post but I am hoping that you will. In it, there’s solution. As veterans, we know that “thoughts and prayers” is not a strategic plan. Neither is hardening of schools a complete plan. That’s a defensive tactic that only addresses the back end of the issue, not the root cause. We need a strategy that will stop these incidents from happening in the first place. That strategy, developed by a team of Marylanders, is outlined in the link and we already have proof that it works to stop violence before it happens. Our work was recognized and supported by Rep Elijah Cummings, Rep Debbie Dingle, and other members of Congress, & was honored by President Biden. It’s time that we spread the L.O.V.E. Is The Answer principles throughout our K-12 schools. Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) https://lnkd.in/eZ9-vRSW
The First Lady and I are heartbroken for the Joppatowne community as we grieve the loss of a life cut short. Maryland prays for the young victim of this senseless act, Warren Curtis Grant – as well as his family, friends, teachers, mentors, and loved ones. My full statement:

The world and America in particular needs this: volunteerism, civic duty and service are something sadly that seems to be at a loss in my country. The opportunity I had to serve in the Peace Corps helped me realize the necessity of community engagement and cohesion and the immense need for these opportunities for citizens around the world to build strong and resilient democracies at the local and national levels. I am also reminded of Robert Putnam’s “Bowling Alone” and an update he wrote in 2010, reflecting on the imperative of “social capital” which research has shown makes “citizens happier, healthier, reduces crime and makes governments more responsive, and honest and improves economic prosperity…” https://lnkd.in/ejFsvTs9 - all of this to say: building this social capital is imperative fo “any democracy, any society can’t be healthy without this resource…” (paraphrased!) - Americorps and Peace corps forging a stronger partnership can only be beneficial to growing social capital and I encourage all of us to look closer at our own civic engagement and service to our communities- this is where change and development starts.
?? Big News! ?? Peace Corps and AmeriCorps are forging a strategic partnership to rally all Americans for a brighter, sustainable future. ?? at least we are learning from this. I for one have gained massive knowledge in Fire Safety more so after completing my level 4 Diploma.
It’s been seven years since the fire at Grenfell Tower. Today, we’re remembering the 72 people who lost their lives and thinking of everyone affected by the tragedy. The anniversary offers a poignant moment to reflect on the changes we’ve made since, to ensure our homes are safe places for our customers to live. https://ow.ly/eHGs50Sib74
