The National Alliance to End Homelessness recently released the results of new public opinion poll about how Americans view homelessness. Of the many findings, direct service providers and nonprofit organizations are perceived to be among the most trusted to handle the work that builds solutions for homelessness, but there is a recognition that these organizations don't have enough resources. Given that homelessness in the United States is currently at the highest levels in the history of record keeping by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, organizations like CaringWorks are more critical than ever in implementing proven solutions to end homelessness. Read the summary of the opinion poll at https://rebrand.ly/rqcwyge, and learn how you can be part of the solution to end homelessness by supporting CaringWorks at caringworksinc.org. #endhomelessness #caringworks

Yesterday the 100 in 100 initiative was launched in Grand Rapids. “An effort to house 100 individuals who are experiencing homelessness in 100 days with an intentional focus on chronic homelessness.” So encouraging to see this private/public partnership. SIROW Project Spotlight ??It's Homelessness Awareness Month! At SIROW, we strive to address homelessness in multiple ways. One way is by providing frequent up-to-date reports on housing insecurity indicators for Arizona and Pima County. These reports present the current status of housing security experienced by our local community as well as trends over time in housing security. This information is useful to understand the severity of housing insecurity experienced by our community. It also helps to guide the development and continuation of efforts to decrease homelessness, addressing a basic human need and right for safety and security for everyone. Here is the most recent report: https://lnkd.in/gBpcATJR On an ongoing basis, you can find future reports posted on SIROW's webpage https://sirow.arizona.edu/ Get connected with SIROW’s Keith Bentele who provides the reports: https://lnkd.in/gCmPhzVg

November is Homelessness Awareness Month, a time to step back and recognize the reality that homelessness can happen to anyone. Life is unpredictable, and sometimes, it takes only one unexpected turn to find ourselves in situations we never imagined. It’s not that people don’t care, but that homelessness can be a hard issue to look at closely—it’s often easier to compartmentalize or look away from something that stirs up so many emotions. Whether you’re a policymaker, a community leader, or a concerned neighbor, this month invites each of us to take a moment and face the complexity of homelessness. It’s not just about a lack of housing; it’s about support systems, opportunities, and our shared responsibility to build sustainable solutions. This November, consider reaching out to your local agencies or Continuum of Care (CoC) organizations. Ask how you can learn more, advocate, or volunteer.
The Kansas Statewide Homeless Coalition extends its sincere thanks to Governor Laura Kelly for proclaiming November as Homelessness Awareness Month in Kansas. This recognition emphasizes the importance of raising awareness around homelessness and strengthening our commitment to those impacted across our state. Homelessness Awareness Month isn’t just about statistics; it’s about the real stories and struggles that Kansans experiencing homelessness face every day. This proclamation serves as a powerful reminder that we, as a community, can come together to create lasting change by supporting meaningful solutions. Throughout November, let’s elevate the voices of individuals with lived experience, learn more about the challenges of homelessness, and explore how each of us can make a difference. Together, we can work toward a future where every Kansan has a safe, stable place to call home. Thank you, Governor Kelly, for your leadership and commitment.

Homelessness is a very serious issue in the City of Seattle and across King County, with African Americans making up a disproportionate number of people seeking shelter and permanent housing. Africatown Community Land Trust, or ACLT, based in Seattle’s Central District, is a community-based organization confronting this issue head-on. Located on 16th and Yesler, the Benu Community Home, operated by ACLT, opened in December 2021 and is a low-barrier enhanced shelter for single adult males. Just a few weeks ago, ACLT celebrated Benu Community Day. The day served as a rallying call to showcase the impact of Benu Community Home and, to unveil the Benu Impact Report, which detailed the transformative work being done to uplift unhoused Black men in Seattle and King County. As the city grapples with a homelessness crisis—where nearly 30% of the unhoused population are Black despite making up less than 7% of the total population—Benu Community Home stands as a lifeline for change. The Benu Report detailed a holistic approach to not just providing shelter, but creating a foundation for renewal, support, and empowerment. Benu’s model transforms lives by offering a safe space to heal, build community, and reclaim opportunity. This segment was produced by Kennesha Poe-Buycks, Carlos Imani, and The Elite Collective for Back2Besa and originally aired on October 5th on FOX 13 Seattle. In 2021, we committed to a transformation of our homelessness response system. We aligned investments to focus on reducing unsheltered homelessness. Together, the All Neighbors Coalition has reduced unsheltered homelessness by 24% since that system transformation began. Our next big milestone is a 50% reduction in unsheltered homelessness as compared to 2021 levels. If we stay the course with continued public and private investments in proven strategies for housing and support services, we can reach this goal by 2026. Together, we will make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring in Dallas and Collin counties! #endhomelessness #Housingforward #allneighborscoalition

This week we're counting down the top 5 steps for Victoria to make the leap to a society that has ended homelessness. The best (and most cost-effective) way to end homelessness is to stop it from happening in the first place. And one of the key ways to do that is to prevent unnecessary evictions.? In Victoria, the Private Rental Assistance Program, the Tenancy Assistance and Advocacy Program, and TenancyPlus are saving thousands of people from homelessness right now. But demands on these programs far exceed their funding. We need to increase funding to these programs to ensure they work as effectively as possible, saving Victorians from the trauma of homelessness and taking strain off the rest of the homelessness system. Adequate income support from the federal Government also has a vital role to play in ensuring households can meet their basic costs. What's been your experience with eviction-prevention programs? And what steps do you think are needed for Victoria to make the leap to a society that has ended homelessness? We'd love to hear your thoughts, using the hashtag #LeapWeek. #homelessness #endhomelessness #evictionprevention

Homelessness remains a pressing challenge in the U.S., with over half a million Americans homeless in 2024, many living unsheltered. The COVID-19 pandemic only worsened this crisis, but the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has made strides through expanded housing assistance and supportive services. ?? Key Initiatives Driving Change: ?? Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) Program: Launched in 2021 and funded by the American Rescue Plan, this program provided 70,000 housing vouchers to individuals and families at risk of homelessness. PHAs partnered with local organizations to stabilize housing during the pandemic. ALL INside Initiative: Part of the All In: The Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness, this initiative focuses on unsheltered homelessness in cities like Chicago, Dallas, and Phoenix. Results include a 12% reduction in homelessness in Dallas and a 24% drop in unsheltered homelessness in Phoenix. #FederalAction Medicaid Flexibility: States can now use Medicaid for services like housing navigation and behavioral health support, crucial for individuals with complex health needs. #HousingAndHealth ?? Removing Barriers: HUD has made housing access fairer by removing screening barriers tied to credit, criminal history, or evictions. This individualized approach ensures more people can break the cycle of homelessness. #FairHousing ?? Federal Collaboration: Increased collaboration between agencies like HUD, HHS, and the VA has led to impactful programs such as HUD-VASH, which supports veterans, and the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, which helped prevent evictions during the pandemic. #HUDVASH Looking Ahead: Sustaining Progress Ending homelessness is possible, but it requires sustained commitment from government, nonprofits, and communities. Together, we can make this vision a reality and ensure everyone has a safe place to call home ??. ?? #HousingFirst #EndingHomelessness #FederalCollaboration #HUD #HomelessnessSolutions
