Anyone who’s worked with me will be aware of how much I bang on about the importance of metrics in #agile and #lean governance. For the last four years we’ve been trying to build a product that sits across the major tools and makes life easy for delivery managers and execs. Today we sadly called it quits on that journey, wrapping up Flomatika due to an inability to nail product / market fit before we ran out of funds. To quote a conversation with Nigel Dalton, sometimes being early and being wrong feels the same. There’s been an extraordinary amount of passion and hard work poured into the product by Marcio Sete and our great delivery team - Ann Katherine Mantele , Arushi Kumar , Meghashyam Sateesh , Shishir Dongre and Emily McMahon - and we don’t want that going to waste. Additionally, the problem of surfacing delivery metrics in a humane fashion hasn’t gone anywhere. And finally, the agile community has been great to us. So…. we’re throwing what we’ve built open to the broader agile community to pick it up and run with it. falcon-metrics; a Flomatika project is an open source project containing everything you need to extract data from delivery tools, aggregate it meaningfully using the interestingly pronounced FQL, and produce awesome dashboards that will make your executives do happy dances. We hope the community runs with it, that it solves challenging problems, and spawns a whole bunch of cool applications that we could never think of. If you could share this with your networks we’d really appreciate it! Big thanks to John Tooth who has expertly managed this process whilst also producing a lovely looking human.

Sad but not surprising. The bastardization of Lean measures and metrics (irreducible vs derived) is a plague. A lot of the metrics being peddled and touted today are just BS. A lack of understanding of the base fundamentals coupled with simple greed to sell certifications is part of the rot. I’m sorry to see Flomatika fail as it held huge promise of doing it right. Let’s hope the open source community use the value wisely and don’t follow the examples of some large framework purveyors.

Sorry and happy to see this I guess. I kept coming back to something like this as a business idea and then rejecting it because Flomatika (amongst a small handful of tools) looked like they had it covered. It's a hard space, full of very human contradictions and unrealisable ideals, and worth every effort to solve - effort that will surely not be lost with the gift to the OSS community. I'll be pulling it shortly :)

Disappointing. The data in all organisations are still there and insights can be had by those who really want it

Flomatika helped us to make tectonic shifts in our organisation, and I love the focus on flow metrics, especially seeing the strong focus on this topic in the Agile community. I hope to use the newly minted open source project in future engagements soon. We need a Happy FQL day!

Although I work for a direct competitor, I'm genuinely sad to hear this news. At the end of the day, we all want to make an impact in the world by solving problems that improve the workplace. I wish you the best of luck in your next venture. ????

Knowing both you Andrew Blain and Marcio Sete I know that you would not have left any stones unturned and who would have been better to accompany you then the most eloquent John Tooth (and contributions from Horacio Atencio and Alan Mangroo back in the day). In the visible world it is often the last straw that breaks the camels back that gets the recognition. In reality it is all the handwork of people that come before that have done their job for the straw to have that effect. Keep up the good spirits folks. Love your work your contributions and wish you a lot of success for the next venture.

What a shame it didn’t work out for you but as always you think of the bigger picture and now let the community continue to evolve it. Well done on what you did achieve ??

Sorry to hear this. 3x failure in this space myself and I know how hard it is to overcome BS marketing in this space. I’ll check out Flowmatika. Thanks for open sourcing. This is too important a problem not to solve well, and maybe one day there will be viable product that actually is useful! Best wishes.
