With the help of my advisor, Dr. Kelly Main, I'm thrilled to share the completion of my senior project! ???? This senior project addresses food insecurity in San Diego's Mid-City region by proposing strategies to increase access to healthy, affordable food options. The two main recommendations are re-establishing a community farmer's market with city involvement and implementing a mobile produce market, both aimed at bringing fresh, nutritious food directly to underserved neighborhoods. These initiatives build on the past success of a discontinued community-run farmers' market and an existing, though limited, mobile produce market run by a local nonprofit. By leveraging the City's resources, expertise, and collaborative partnerships, the project strives to increase affordable and equitable access to locally sourced produce, support local agriculture, and foster vibrant community spaces. The proposed approaches emphasize collaborative governance, strategic site selection, vendor recruitment, affordability strategies, community engagement, and sustainable funding models to ensure long-term success and community resilience.

As we celebrate five years of partnership with California State Parks this year, we have been reflecting on what has been achieved, thanks to the collaboration from our partners and supporters – from over a hundred nonprofit and community organizations to climate scientists to tribal leaders to equity champions to our generous funders and all of YOU! We would not be where we are today without this community.? We’re excited to announce a new report, Leading Together: A New Model for Thriving State Parks, examining Parks California’s unique statutory partnership model and providing guidance to other park systems that want to establish a similar partnership. Potrero Group—a consulting firm with expertise in public lands—put this report together to help us share what we’ve learned from our first five years with California State Parks. We believe that collaboration and partnership is the key to addressing major issues, like climate change and inequality, and we hope that our experience helps parks everywhere to thrive. For two years I have served Douglas County with a steadfast dedication to data-driven decisions, integrity, and compassion. With a Ph.D. in Geography, experience as a business owner, and a dozen years as a volunteer firefighter, I bring hands-on experience and practical knowledge to our Commission. With your help, we can continue to keep common sense, business sense, and science in county policy. In the last two years have pushed the effort to decrease our mill levy, streamline resources for emergency services, and expand options for seniors and veterans. And for my next term, I have these three goals: ? Economic Development: To ease the tax burden on residents, we need smart growth with both infill and greenfield development for housing, as well as more commercial and industrial properties to diversify our tax base. ? Equitable Opportunity: Expanding supportive housing for seniors, improving emergency medical response times in west Lawrence and District 3, and enhancing our justice and crisis care systems to better serve marginalized groups. ? Environmental Stewardship: Making evidence-based decisions that protect our natural resources, focusing on sustainable land use, clean water, and preparing for a future shaped by climate change. I value loving our diverse neighbors, working together, and finding common ground to improve our communities. For me, leadership means staying curious and valuing different perspectives. It's mind-boggling that the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation wants to evict the Big Reuse from its Queens site. The Big Reuse processes tons of park and food waste yearly, producing nutrient-rich soil amendment that benefits surrounding parks, community gardens, and street trees. We all understand the challenges that city agencies face (lack of funding, space), but the Parks department's argument -- that it needs the space for parking -- is not justifiable. There is ample space for both its parking needs AND the Big Reuse's compost operation. The city seems intent on killing community composting—contradicting the commitments Adams Administration has promised towards expanding green infrastructure, achieving sustainability goals, improving public space, and more.
