This is a critical topic that requires more collaborative input from the public and private sector...as well as Gen Z.
It was an honor to join?Hauwa Mufti,?Janet Truncale, and our moderator?Jonathan Haidt?for a quick, but meaningful conversation on Gen Z and their influence on the future of work, cities, and how real estate can respond. A throughline for me is the power of connection. How the digital and physical environment develops to foster meaningful connections personally and professionally impacts everything from where we live to how we work. For real estate, I see this as a critical reminder that the public sector, private sector, and communities need to sit at the table and align on the projects and outcomes that matter. Gen Z isn’t shy about priorities: social connection, affordability, safety, and purpose in the office stand out to me as outcomes that benefit us all. Good news for Xmas eve: Minneapolis and Seattle have been jointly awarded $14.8 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing Transportation (SMART) Grants Program. The two cities are collaborating to address growing challenges that many cities face in managing limited curb space in increasingly busy urban business districts. I’m grateful to the Public Works staff who worked so hard to secure this federal funding! Tim Sexton, AICP Dillon Fried, CAPP

???????????????????? ???????????? ?????????? ?????? ???????????? ???????????? Public spaces are the heart of urban life; they are the music between the concrete of the built environment. Since they serve as essential third places where we gather, stay active, and connect, these spaces foster a collective sense of belonging, transforming neighborhoods and cities into vibrant communities. The following case studies exemplify this potential by showcasing how communities creatively leverage public spaces to improve safety, health, and food security, reclaiming them as shared assets and channeling public investments into wide-ranging positive outcomes.
