It's #Mondata! Over the past five years, data reveals that approximately 60% of donors support just one nonprofit in a given year, with an additional 15% supporting two. ?? Between 2020 to 2022, donation behaviour shifted, largely influenced by the pandemic and the heightened focus on social and racial justice following the Black Lives Matter movement. During this time, the average number of causes supported by each donor rose to between 2.5 and 2.7. However, by 2023, this number settled back to an average of 2.2 nonprofits per donor, a level similar to that seen in 2019. There seems to be a strong inclination among donors to be singularly focused when it comes to issues. Is this a good thing, a bad thing or just a thing? Who are the forgotten women? Why care about somebody I don't know? It doesn't impact me, so I don't need to bother myself with it..... Let's break the stigma and their silence, stand up, and educate ourselves and those around us. Support those without a voice and those who are too scared, embarrassed, or worried about judgment! 'The Forgotten Women', over 40,000 Queensland women over the age of 55 are homeless. Sadly this figure is due to increase twofold by 2036! With over 700 based in greater Brisbane. That is 700 women who are someone’s aunt, mother, or grandmother, struggling to keep their heads above water, often doing so in silence. I am calling all my LinkedIn friends, family and colleagues, Stand with me and support my team, we are taking on the Live Like Her Challenge 2024 to help more homeless women over 55 into homes. For one night, we will sleep in a car to raise awareness and funds for The Forgotten Women project, an initiative that is close to our hearts. This initiative hits close to home for me. I have seen close friends struggle to find suitable accommodation for their families, especially elderly mothers and grandmothers who have even had to couch surf with only the clothes on their backs and without the medication some need due to having to decide which bill to pay, the house, power or food?? We can never judge one's circumstances, but we can certainly change our thought process and help rather than hinder. For some, homelessness is due to financial strain, domestic violence and, in some situations, families who don't want anything to do with them.? In a situation most of us could never imagine, these women often hold their heads high and suffer in silence, but they deserve a warm, safe home. Let's help raise awareness for such a worthy cause. This?#InternationalWomensDay, we're calling on philanthropy to?#InvestInWomen?by creating spaces where adolescent girls and young women of color can learn, play, dream, and become powerful movement leaders. Tides Foundation's Advancing Girls Fund powers grantmaking for girls and young women of color and their allies.
