?? As warfare becomes increasingly complex, Artificial Intelligence is stepping into a transformative role. State-of-the-art documents like NATO's SAS-143 (see link in the comments) already discuss the integration of Non-Human Intelligent Collaborators (NICs)—AI systems that are no longer just tools, but active decision-makers in military operations. ?? As conflicts grow more sophisticated, NICs are expected to take on greater responsibility, helping to manage the sheer complexity that may eventually surpass human cognitive limits. What’s more, the adoption of NICs is inevitable—as adversaries develop and deploy their own AI systems, staying ahead will require continuous innovation. This creates a positive feedback loop, where both sides increasingly rely on NICs to keep up, pushing the boundaries of warfare and technology even further. ?? In the near future, we may reach a point where no human alone can fully comprehend the battlefield, making these intelligent systems essential in determining the outcome of operations!

It helps us understand both the opportunities of AI in the military domain, for supporting international peace and security, and also the norms and standards necessary for ensuring these technologies are used in a safe and responsible manner.
