I wouldn't be where I am today if I didn't have an opportunity to get higher education, first in Russia, and then in UC Berkeley Haas. I'm extremely grateful for that and I know that many in my network will relate to this. Higher education is a transformative experience, but did you know that low income families can't afford it even when it's free? Total costs of attendance add up to 90% or more of a low income family income even after accounting for all the aid. That's why I volunteer on the board at Education First. It's a one-of-a-kind non-profit where each year we award 16 scholarships in 8 major US cities - Austin, Boston, Denver, Los Angeles, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle. We seek and hand-pick the "underdogs" that will go on to do great things if the opportunity is presented. Consider Misael from Mission High in SF, to whom I personally awarded the $3,500 scholarship this year. His family came from Honduras and he didn't speak or write in English at all. Not only he became an A student in his school, but he also took advanced UCSF programs and EMT classes. We've been finding and helping students like Misael for 20 years. We're raising funds for our next year's scholars. Join me and make a difference in their lives: https://lnkd.in/gBcMTvkv Pro-tip: if you don't have a charitable donor advised?fund, you can set it up and donate stocks instead. No capital gain tax. Fidelity, Charles Schwab, etc. all have that.

It all started in 2014 when a group of UCF students committed to use their knowledge for impact. Through the power of teamwork and ingenuity, the students produced a 3D-printed bionic arm for a child living with a limb difference to give the child a new sense of hope and confidence. But, their work didn’t stop there. After witnessing the way the bionic arm shaped the child’s personal identity, the students made a life-changing decision: their mission would be to empower others through accessibility technology. Ten years later, the same students have donated 40 bionic arms to children with the help of over 160 University of Central Florida interns and five full-time staff members. What started as an idea at a kitchen table has transformed into an innovative research facility called Limbitless Solutions. Limbitless Solutions, a nonprofit direct support organization at UCF, works to empower individuals and increase accessibility through interdisciplinary teamwork and expressive technology. Our growth is the result of the support of those who have believed in us - and today, on #UCFDayofGiving, YOU can help further our impact. ???? All donations made to Limbitless Solutions help our Student Scholar Program - which consists of undergraduate students from across UCF - and creates more magical moments for our bionic kids and families. ?? We imagine a society where bionic arms are as common as glasses or braces - with your support, we can make this happen. Starting today (Monday, Nov 11th), Rollins College has begun the first ever Student Philanthropy Week. (https://lnkd.in/e5Pdjhfz) This event allows anyone and everyone to donate directly to student organizations, such as our American Chemical Society chapter (The Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society). As President of the Rollins College ACS Chapter, I want to politely ask my connections to consider giving toward our campaign. You can donate here at this link: https://lnkd.in/e5Pdjhfz In years past, our chapter has been severely lacking funds. As scientists, this of course means we get to be creative in finding low-cost ways to fund our events such as ChemisTEA (where we share a demo on how pH effects teas), Chemistry in Color ( Winter Park Library, aimed toward teaching tweens about the Radium Girls and fluorescence), STEM: Hands on Exploration (at the Winter Park library, aimed toward all age groups to showcase different careers in STEM), at the NOBCChE STEM Fest, and at the Orlando Science Center (for National Chemistry week). However, having a designated amount of funds toward our efforts would be an immense help in our journey to build a strong STEM community, both on campus and in public outreach. For our ACS chapter report for the 2023-2024 academic year, the most common request we received was to find a way to obtain funding. This year, Student Philanthropy Week is our opportunity to do so. So I humbly ask those in my network to please consider giving toward our chapter. During this week (Nov 11 to 15th), anything you give will be added to different challenges, meaning we have the potential to win more funds towards our group. #americanchemicalsociety #ACSChapter #RollinsCollege #StudentPhilanthropyWeek #Giving #publicoutreach #chemistry

In the journey of life, we often encounter individuals whose resilience and determination shine through adversity. Shakira Wiggins is one such student, a beacon of hope and inspiration in her pursuit of education. Today, I urge you to join hands in supporting students like Shakira through the Ross College Foundation. Education is not merely about acquiring knowledge; it's about empowerment, breaking barriers, and realizing dreams. The Kristin Beal Scholarship, facilitated by the Ross College Foundation, has been a lifeline for students like Shakira Wiggins, who embody the spirit of perseverance. Shakira's words resonate deeply: "Completing this program not only shows myself but shows my son, my family and friends and the entire world that no matter how hard life may hit, I get up and fight it another day.” These words encapsulate the essence of resilience, the indomitable human spirit that refuses to succumb to challenges. Behind every student's journey are countless obstacles, financial burdens being one of the most significant. By donating to the Ross College Foundation, you're not just offering financial assistance; you're providing a gateway to opportunity, a chance for individuals like Shakira to defy odds and chase their aspirations. Imagine the impact of your contribution—the scholarships awarded, the dreams realized, and the futures transformed. Every donation, regardless of size, becomes a stepping stone in the path of a student's success. It's a ripple effect of positivity, touching not only the lives of the recipients but also their families, communities, and beyond. In a world where challenges abound, let's be the catalysts for change. Let's stand together and empower students like Shakira?to turn their dreams into reality. #highereducation #nonprofit #alliedhealth #pharmacytechnician #onlinelearning #dogood

Empowering the Next Generation at Downtown Value School When California introduced the Enrichment Learning Opportunities Program, Downtown Value School took a chance on me, and I am so grateful for that opportunity. In my role as the Enrichment Learning Opportunities Coordinator, I’ve had the privilege to live out one of Value Schools most cherished values: “Academic excellence is the means to a full life, and students should strive for it.” We are all students. Through this journey, I’ve delved into the intricacies of legislation, audit measures, and the fiscal landscape of education, all while embracing a leadership role that stretches me every day. I couldn’t have done this without the incredible support from Los Angeles County Office of Education , the California Department of Education, Value Schools and esspecially my systems of support at the California AfterSchool Network. Reflecting on my experiences, I hold close a favorite quote: “The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.” – Mark Van Doren. This is the philosophy that drives me every day as I work to ensure that every scholar in the Value Schools network has a fighting chance to break through the glass ceiling, to access enriching experiences, and to pursue their dreams for a fuller life. Working at a Title I school is more than a job—it's a mission. It’s about making sure every student in my community, no matter their background, has the opportunity to shine. As I look forward to continuing my education, I am committed to ensuring that our students don’t just follow in my footsteps—they surpass them. If you share this vision of equitable education, please consider supporting our efforts at Downtown Value School. Every contribution brings us one step closer to breaking barriers for the next generation. Collectively, our current board members have provided an amazing?159 years of expert service?to Value Schools. To mark this occasion, our generous board members are offering a? $300,159 dollar-for-dollar challenge?as part of our?End-of-Year Giving Campaign. This means your generous donation will be?doubled! Pop Quiz! What does the term ‘Summer Slide’ mean? I hadn’t heard of this term before learning about Page Ahead Children's Literacy Program and joining the Board, so if it’s new to you, you’re not alone! The Summer Slide is the tendency for students, especially those from low-income families, to lose some of the achievement gains they made during the previous school year during the summer months when they aren’t in school and don’t have easy access to reading material. It's essential to recognize that summer learning loss accounts for a staggering 80% of the achievement gap between low-income students and their more advantaged peers. The ripple effects of the summer slide are profound and can significantly impact students' future success. ? Enter?Page Ahead Children's Literacy Program and a key reason I got involved on the Board. The Book Up Summer (BUS) program addresses this achievement gap before it happens. BUS builds home libraries and keeps kids’ reading skills up over summer break: K–2 students at majority low-income elementary schools choose 12 new books from a book fair at school, at no cost to them or their families, to keep and read during the summer and beyond. ? As I do every year, I am raising money for Page Ahead's Book Up Summer Program to help give every student in Washington access to read, learn, and succeed! If you'd like to join me in supporting this cause, you can donate using the link below or shoot me a note if you'd like to join me in person at the Luncheon! #PageAhead?#LiteracyMatters?#JoinTheCause??? https://lnkd.in/gxWNHpiA

Many of CISA's underrepresented students in humanities and interdisciplinary studies majors require financial assistance to finish their degrees. Whether it's money to help with books, housing, tuition, research or pursuing unpaid internships — your generosity can make a meaningful impact on our students, setting them up for success for years to come. Your donation, of any amount, will be matched up to $15,000 in additional student support and bring us even closer to endowing CISA's Interdisciplinary Humanities Scholarship, enabling us to offer it every semester in perpetuity! All funds will be deposited with the ASU Foundation for A New American University, a nonprofit organization that exists to support Arizona State University (ASU). Gifts in support of ASU are subject to foundation policies and fees. In the event that funds raised reach $25,000, gifts will be permanently endowed. Your gift may be considered a charitable contribution. Please consult your tax advisor regarding the deductibility of charitable contributions. ?? #GovsGive2024 Update ?? We're still going strong until 7:27 p.m. today, March 13! APSU Department of Communication Professor Mike Dunn shares the impact of funding on student experiences: "Funding helps us to give students hands-on experience, so when they go into the job market, they're able to do so much more than maybe students who didn't have the opportunities. The funding allows students to spend more time in labs or spend more time in the radio station or in an art studio or whatever they do on campus. I think that gives them the power than when they go out to Industry to be able to really show what Austin Peay can do for students." Support our students' growth and future success by donating now at https://lnkd.in/emTZR5_3! Every contribution makes a difference. #GovsForLifeExperience
