???5 Tips to Make Your Event Inclusive and Welcoming!??? ?? Start with Inclusive Language?– Use language that reflects respect for diverse abilities in all materials. ?? Get Feedback from the Community?– Consult with people with disabilities to understand their needs and preferences. ?? Ensure Accessibility is Thoughtful?– Go beyond ramps; consider seating, quiet areas, and sensory-friendly spaces (consider speakers, guests, staff and volunteers). ?? Amplify Diverse Voices?– Prioritize speakers with disabilities to bring unique perspectives to the conversation (and pay them accordingly). ?? Foster a Welcoming Culture?– Train staff to interact confidently and respectfully with everyone. Making an event accessible gives you the best return: speakers and attendees can fully engage and bring their best selves - you've created a space where everyone is valued and belongs. #InclusionMatters #AccessibleEvents #AccessibilityMatters #ForAll #ChooseToInclude #InclusivePractices

We're celebrating #DisabilityPrideMonth here at Event Site Design, and we want to take this opportunity to champion all of the disabled people (visible & invisible) working in the events industry. 24% of the UK is disabled, but there is still progress to be made with inclusivity across public areas & in the workplace; a shocking 77% of disabled people don't disclose their disabilities during the recruitment process for fear of losing out. Where do Event Site Design come into all of this? A big part of our job is ensuring that the events we plan are safe and accessible, whether they be on a green field site or indoor venue. Likewise, it's crucial to us that all of our team members feel supported and able to share their needs so that we can ensure they're met. Throughout this month, we want to share how we facilitate accessible events, and the amazing people in this industry who push for inclusivity. - #disabilityawareness #disabilityintheworkplace #accessibility #accessibleevents #eventsplanning

To be serious about diversity in the workplace, we need to revise existing structures and working practices to make them more inclusive. ???? I wrote a short piece on how to plan better events, from a neurodivergent perspective. ?? Have a read and reach out if you would like to chat further. Link below??
Why should we prepare for more accessible events? ?? Preparing for an event requires a lot of work and can be time-consuming. But when we give it the right amount of preparation, we help ensure positive outcomes and successful initiatives. We want more diversity of input and representation, but may forget that people live with different disabilities, some more visible than others. ?? If you are curious, check out this article by our colleague Rebecca Harvey (she/her), who shares a few tips on how to think about accessibility when preparing for an event. - https://lnkd.in/duXh_i2i ?? ? #Accessibility #Changethatmatters #Eventdevelopment #neurodiversity

We attend, sponsor, and speak at a lot of events throughout the year and we’d love to see more events factor accessibility and inclusivity into their event planning. Here are some tips to keep in mind: 1. Seating Variety: Offer chairs with and without arms, and avoid those flimsy plastic ones! People with physical disabilities or back issues will thank you. 2. Scheduled Breaks: Don’t overload your event with nonstop sessions. Frequent breaks give attendees time to stretch, recharge, and stay engaged. 3. Quiet Zone: Create a peaceful space with comfy seating, soft lighting, and plants. No talking or phones — just pure relaxation. Let’s make events better for all! ?? #Conferences #EventPlanning #InclusionMatters #AccessibilityForAll

I'm naturally an introvert but I know how to "turn it on" when I need to show up. At events, it's sometimes hard to strike that balance. You want to network, shake hands and build relationships. But you also need that time (and space) to be quiet and recharge without feeling judged, criticized, or labeled as unfriendly or as anti-social. If I think like this as an #eventprof imagine how other event attendees feel who are not? That's why creating a sense of belonging for your attendees should always be a top priority as you build out your experiences. Leave no stone unturned. While you can't (and never will) make everyone happy, you darn sure can try. ?? Another great excerpt from my chat with Seth Dechtman - Expert Keynote Curator.
