?? Hot off the press! New Future Cleantech Priorities Report on Innovation, Transport, Construction, and the Future Energy System! ? The Future Cleantech Priorities report is an interdisciplinary report that focuses on key takeaways from the Future Cleantech Festival and actionable policy recommendations, based on both the Festival and our overall work, for the new EU Agenda.?Some key recommendations are: ? ?? Innovation: Strengthen R&D and innovation funding: Prioritize funding for cleantech research and innovation by allocating more resources to Horizon Europe in the next programming period. Increase funding for the Innovation Fund and the EIC program to support a diverse range of technical solutions and fasten access to financing for cleantech startups. ?? Transport: Maintain the momentum: The European Green Deal has been a momentous achievement; however, the hard work is just starting to meet ambitious targets within the EU. Policymakers must maintain the momentum as revisions of important legislation and increased funding support for innovation will be crucial to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Regulation must also expand to include aviation’s hidden emissions and address contrails. ?? Construction: Switching from prescriptive to performance-based standards: Current prescriptive standards are simple to use but limit innovation, as low-carbon cements and concretes (or other materials) might not comply. Performance-based standards, while requiring some adaptation for industry to follow, allow more solutions to compete fairly and thus open up the market to innovation. Beyond lower carbon materials, standards should also incentivize structural efficiency and enhance the sustainability of the entire building lifecycle. ? Future Energy System: Adopt a system-wide approach: Decarbonizing the power sector requires a comprehensive strategy that assesses all components of the future energy system. This strategy should integrate flexibility tools such as long-duration energy storage (including thermal storage for heat applications), digitalization, clean firm power, and enhanced grid infrastructure. Highly recommend reading the policy recommendations of Future Cleantech Architects on #construction ?? At a time when policy makers are discussing the future implementation of the #greendeal and further strengthening the #internal market, it is vital to put topics such as #performance-based standards and #GPP front and central into the public debate.

Embarking on a New Journey with AIS4EE for a Sustainable Future Energy efficiency addresses one of the most apparent yet complex challenges of our time. It’s so fundamental that we often overlook it—like stress. As Jeff Bezos once said, “Stress primarily comes from not taking action over something that you can have some control over.” This resonates deeply when I think of how we tackle climate issues: we have the tools and knowledge, yet we often hesitate or work in isolation. Recently, both Cenergy and Opensens joined the AIS4EE (Accelerating Innovative Start-ups for Energy Efficiency) program. This accelerator is Vietnam’s first dedicated program for energy efficiency, empowering start-ups and students to bring innovative solutions to the forefront. Through AIS4EE, we aim to tackle energy efficiency across critical sectors—industry, transportation, and green buildings. As a startup founder, I wanted to embody the spirit of this program and took it to Ta Xua, one of Vietnam’s most beautiful trekking mountains. This journey represents the beginning of a new path toward energy efficiency, inspired by the unity and action AIS4EE promotes. Together, with a shared commitment, I believe we can create impactful solutions for a sustainable future. After reading the article, I believe that energy resilience, energy transition, and decarbonization can have a low-risk balanced approach within the borders defined by this group -- however, decarbonization as defined in this group is far too broad to set realistic, verifiable, achievable, and testable metrics.
