Strategic Investment in Evertrak, a North American Composite Railroad Tie Manufacturer Sumitomo Corporation, through its subsidiary Sumitomo Corporation of Americas, has announced a strategic investment in Evertrak , a U.S.-based manufacturer of composite railroad ties for the North American railroad industry. This partnership aims to reduce environmental impacts and build a more sustainable railroad infrastructure in North America. ? In High Decay Zones, primarily located in the southeastern United States, heat and high humidity accelerate the early decay of wood railroad ties, posing challenges from both cost and environmental perspectives. To address these issues, the North American railroad industry is increasingly adopting composite railroad ties as a sustainable alternative. Made from recycled plastics and fiberglass, composite ties offer numerous advantages, including superior environmental performance, extended durability, and long-term cost savings. ? (U.K.) Ltd. subsidiary’s trusted partner, Marine & Cargo, has become the first in the UK to integrate #SchmitzCargobull’s all-electric S.KOe COOL trailer into their fleet, supporting our commitment to reducing emissions while maintaining high standards of service. ?? By adopting these #zeroemission trailers, Marine & Cargo has eliminated around 200 litres of diesel per week. What makes this achievement even more special is the integration with a Mercedes-Benz Actros Gigaspace tractor unit running on hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), bringing us closer to our sustainability goals with every step we take. ???? The trailer, proudly displaying both the Marine & Cargo and STI Freight Management logos, is a testament to the #trust and #collaboration between our teams. Roy Hill, a leading Australian iron ore mining company, is set to pioneer this groundbreaking innovation as the launch customer for the world’s first 100% battery-powered heavy-haul locomotive. Once finalized, the locomotive will embark on a remarkable 17,000km journey from Pennsylvania to Roy Hill's operations in Western Australia, demonstrating the global impact of Pennsylvania's engineering prowess. ?? Promising a double-digit percentage reduction in fuel costs and emissions per train, the FLXdrive represents a pivotal step towards a low-to-zero emission future in rail. It is also a product of Pennsylvania's rich history and expertise in rail production. ??? Pennsylvania's strategic location on the East Coast of the United States provides easy access to major railroads, transit agencies, and suppliers in the region, facilitating international collaboration and business growth. Along with local expertise, built up over generations, in companies like Wabtec, we are also seeing more international companies, like Voith Turbo from Germany, expand their presence in the state. Voith's recent expansion of their facility in York, Pennsylvania was fueled by the growing demand for their rail products in North America and will enhance their capacity to meet Buy America compliance requirements for rail projects (requiring a significant portion of federally assisted projects be manufactured in the U.S.). ?With the U.S. federal government allocating a substantial $11.1bn to Pennsylvania for transportation investments in roads, bridges, public transit, rail, ports, and airports, there's an exciting wave of opportunity on the horizon.
