Here at Shortlist Search we're building out a team in Francophone Africa. Here's the story: ?? If you would have asked me two years ago what I would be up to professionally at this point in my career, executive search would not have been on my list. I've worked in go-to-market roles in tech startups my entire career, and had my eye on entrepreneurship and building my own business. Around the time when I started to more seriously think about what that business would be, I realized two main things: 1. I wanted my work to be geographically focused on where I decided to build my life: here in Africa. 2. I wanted my work to have meaning. I.e. to be making a tangible difference in the lives of the people around me: Africans. These two realizations set off a chain of events that led me first to recruiting, and then to executive search. I guess the point I'm making is that recruitment and search is higher impact work than what most people realize. I get to spend my days highly engaged in things like: ? Helping people find jobs ? Speaking with the continent's present and future leaders ? Networking with top professionals from multiple countries ? Sourcing & ultimately placing talent in organizations looking to enter new markets ? Building strategy on how to help Africa's leading orgs solve human capital problems It's really exciting work, which is why I'm equally excited to be leading the charge as we look to hire new talent analysts and talent consultants based in either Morocco, Senegal, or C?te d'Ivoire. The first thing I did when I lost my job was buy a new smartphone. I am one of those people that never really invested in buying a laptop because one was always available for me, whether it was through my job or access to friends and family laptops. Two weeks later, I lost it! What a luck. First I lose my job then my phone. After going through my savings spending plan and crying a river, I bought a new cheaper one. It has been by far the best investment. Through my phone I have still been able to grow professionally without really having a job. Here is a list of a few things I have managed to do with only the use of my Samsung Galaxy S9 phone; 1. It has helped me search for jobs online on every job posting platform available. 2. Customize and regularly update my resume 3. Apply for jobs through platforms like LinkedIn or recruitment agencies. 4. Conduct interviews! Positioning it just right before it falls off the ledge or something is always an exciting challenge ?? 5. Create posts to stay relevant. My profile analytics make me very proud of myself. 6. Follow up on different industry trends. 7. Regularly update my LinkedIn profile 8. Create and post on my SERVICES page for my freelancing jobs.
